My Experience Switching from a Surface Pro to an iPad Pro for 2 Weeks

So my Surface Pro was reaching the end of its life, and since I've heard tons of good things about the iPad Pro, I was excited to try it out as a replacement. My thought was I could use the iPad for web browsing and art, and remote desktop into my PC for more intensive tasks. So I went straight for the deep end, 12.9" iPad Pro + cellular, with the Brydge Pro+ keyboard. And I'll first say, the Brydge keyboard is amazing, I loved having the feeling of a laptop when I needed it. And as a beginner artist, I loved using Procreate. The Apple Pencil feels fantastic, and the software feels fast and fluid.
But unfortunately, it wasn't long before I started to bump into the restrictions of iPad OS. And while I admit I do tend to be a bit of a power user, but I really didn't expect to feel so held back. It's not like I'm new to Apple software either, I used an iPhone for 4-5 years in the past, and I use a Macbook every day for work. I guess I just never realized how much I rely on third-party tools. Some of the issues I faced were:
Firefox experience was terrible, bad support for external keyboards (ctrl-click rarely worked), and just general clunky UX and UI. I try to avoid Chrome for privacy reasons, and I can't use safari since it can't sync with my PC. Usually I use Ungoogled Chromium but that's not an option on iPad so I just had to deal with Firefox.
No ipad browser has good session management. I use Session Buddy on my PC (chrome extension). I am regularly researching topics (eg black friday deals, politics, tech reviews, etc), and can have up to 200 tabs open at once. On the iPad, even 50 gets hard to manage. Session buddy lets me quickly save sessions, restore them, and search for previous ones. This was probably one of the biggest issues for me, it felt like I couldn't do heavy research because there was no way to organize it.
This is a small one but I like to use download clients like jDownloader, nice for downloading video lectures and such, supports a huge number of websites. I heard you can use youtube-dl on an iPad, but only within a shell, so it doesnt have a nice GUI like jDownloader or youtube-dl-gui.
I've been using Syncthing to synchronize files across my PC, laptop, and android phone without needing an external service like Dropbox. It's very reliable and I never have to worry about space limits. But it's yet another thing I can't find for iPad. I've also been thinking about switching to IPFS, but again, no iPad support.
On my PC or laptop I could connect to my insta360 camera, download my footage, and batch edit my video metadata using a powerful tool called ExifTool. While there's one or two similar looking tools on the app store, they have very bad ratings and don't seem to have the same capabilities.
Multitasking still feels clunky. Perhaps this is just something I need to get used to, but it feels much faster to drag and drop items between windows, instead of using the iPad share menu to send things from app to app. Also since every app is full-screen or half-screen, it feels like a massive context switch every time I switch between apps.
Now I was able to set-up a remote connection to my PC, using the Screens iOS app. But all the problems listed above meant that I basically HAD to remote into my PC to feel productive. Felt like I wasn't making much use of the expensive hardware inside the iPad.
I guess the bottom line is, while a mobile OS feels fine on a phone, when it comes to a 12.9" ipad with a good keyboard+trackpad, it starts to feel like a laptop, so you start to expect the power of a laptop as well. But I just didn't feel as productive as I did on other laptops. The hardware in the iPad Pro is more than capable, but as of now the software just isn't ready imo, and I'd recommend power users like me to just stick to a laptop or Surface. I personally ended up returning the iPad after 2 weeks, and I think I'll be trying the Surface Pro X and Brydge SPX+ combo next.

Having Issues with your driver? Read here!

Before you start - Make sure you Submit Feedback for your Nvidia Driver Issue
There is only one real way for any of these problems to get solved, and that’s if the Driver Team at Nvidia knows what those problems are. So in order for them to know what’s going on it would be good for any users who are having problems with the drivers to Submit Feedback to Nvidia. A guide to the information that is needed to submit feedback can be found here.
Additionally, if you see someone having the same issue you are having in this thread, reply and mention you are having the same issue. The more people that are affected by a particular bug, the higher the priority that bug will receive from NVIDIA!!
Common Troubleshooting Steps
If it still crashes, we have a few other troubleshooting steps but this is fairly involved and you should not do it if you do not feel comfortable. Proceed below at your own risk:
If you are still having issue at this point, visit GeForce Forum for support or contact your manufacturer for RMA.
Common Questions
Bear in mind that people who have no issues tend to not post on Reddit or forums. Unless there is significant coverage about specific driver issue, chances are they are fine. Try it yourself and you can always DDU and reinstall old driver if needed.

Remember, driver codes are extremely complex and there are billions of different possible configurations. The software will not be perfect and there will be issues for some people. For a more comprehensive list of open issues, please take a look at the Release Notes. Again, I encourage folks who installed the driver to post their experience here... good or bad.

HOW TO DOWNGRADE THE GAME TO BETA VERSION!

Hi guys! I posted yesterday if someone knew how to downgrade the game to the beta version and at the end, I had to investigate for myself and I managed to make it work
Extra note: this version is very buggy in some aspects of the game, if someone finds a better manifest, please let me know so I change those details on the guide, thank you~
What is the Beta version? if I'm not wrong, the beta version was between the Legacy one and the final one, this version in my knowledge is the hardest version, it had a lot of concepts that didn't make it to the final version, like the art style, 2D models for the characters and such. Now, Steam actually lets you downgrade the game to two different versions, the legacy version, and 32 bits version but the Beta is nowhere to be found but if you follow this little guide you can downgrade the game to this wonderful beta version, but first I will give the credits to the next post and videos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPFRXh9utNk In this video the guy left a comment with the manifest number, number which is used to downgrade the game, because I didn't find it by myself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44HBxzC_RTg In this video it explains how to download the necessary programs and how to use them, but it needed one last step that didn't mention, but it was mention on...
https://www.reddit.com/Steam/comments/611h5e/guide_how_to_download_older_versions_of_a_game_on/ this post! but this only works on older versions of steam, on the new ones gives an error.
Now, the programs that you need are:
Now we have almost everything, the .zip file must be decompressed on a folder (doesn't matter where) the folder will be called "depotdownloader-2.4.0-prerelease", now you open it and ignore the files, what you have to do is select the navigation bar from the folder direction, delete what is says and type "cmd" so we can finally downgrade the game, we open cmd this way so it instantly marks the folder direction, but if you didn't understand my awful English just open cmd by "windows key + r" or searching it. (You can check this step video that I mentioned earlier) Now here is the "hard"? part you must copy-paste this next command :
" dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 568220 -depot 568221 -manifest 7578101104470284213 -username your nick -password your password"
the app means the app id, depot, the depot id, and the manifest is the version number, if it wasn't because of the video that shows the beta version I would have never found the manifest by myself haha. Now the nick means obviously your steam nick and the password your steam password, keep in mind, you are doing this on cmd, which is an internal program from your own pc, it's not stealing your information and account xD search it if you don't believe me. now an example of this would be
 dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 568220 -depot 568221 -manifest 7578101104470284213 -username LB2When -password 1234
Now the entire command should be something like this:
C:\Users\blanc\Downloads\depotdownloader-2.4.0-prerelease> dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 568220 -depot 568221 -manifest 7578101104470284213 -username LB2When -password 1234
The only difference is that on the direction, instead of "blanc" it will be your username from your pc and the user and password from steam, after you type that command just press enter and wait until it downloads. Now while it downloads let go to the final steps
First, make a copy of your original folder game on "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LobotomyCorp" and save it in case you want to go back because the game is stressful ass fuck xD
Now when the cmd downloads the thing, you need to go into the uncompressed folder "depotdownloader-2.4.0-prerelease" inside the folder there is a new folder called "depots" open it, now there is another folder with the same number of the game id "568221" that means we are going on the right direction ( hopefully) open it and open the next folder called "4979439" is the only one anyways lol, inside it's gonna be two folders and one .exe, the folders should be ".DepotDownloadeLobotomyCorp_Data" and the .exe "LobotomyCorp.exe" the first folder called depot you can ignore it, delete it or whatever you want.
Now the last step, remember the file on this folder? "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LobotomyCorp" yeah, just delete it, you already make a copy of it, or move it somewhere else, now that the folder is empty, move the files from the depot downloader (the beta version) into the LobotomyCorp Steam folder, having both copies will help in case you want to go back into the original version and having a copy of the beta version will help if Project Moon decides to update the game, in which case will fuck up everything and you must eliminate the files again and copy-paste the beta files into the folder again. Now you are good to go! Have fun if you like hard stuff!
Another thing in case you watch the video and the other Reddit post, on the video, says that you don't need to move the beta files into the steam folder, but YOU NEED to do it, if not the game will try to update itself, and it also creates a note pad file to make the game recognizable for steam but again, this is not necessary since the files are gonna be on the steam folder.
Hopefully, you understood this guide, if not, comment your questions and I will be more than happy to answer everything uvu! and I really hope a lot of ppl can see this! because I didn't find actual post/videos explaining how to downgrade the game to beta version, which is weird.
Now I'm out (/e-e)/ -------

Re material being deleted from You-can't-do-that-Tube.

This is nothing new, it's been going on on a grand scale for a long time, but is only becoming more widely known due to recent events.
A strategy is, if you find a worthwhile video you think could be deleted, copy it immediately. Set a very low bar for that "could", else you'll almost certainly be disappointed. That way at least the item can be shared, if only in a more limited arena.
You-shall-not-Tube charge quite a fee for "Premium" with the recording function. Well f**** that. For Android users, there's a free app that works really well and is regularly updated to undo Google's attempts to sabotage it (links below to download sites). For i-can't-Phone users, bad luck, there's no app, no doubt due to sweetheart deals between Rotten Apple and Giggle. The feat can be done manually, but is very messy (instructional videos may still exist).
As for recording using a PC, well there's not likely to be a Chrome extension; my efforts with Firefox were not convenient to use at all. Other commentors may be able to help out here.

Corsair Thoughts

Alright gents, gather around for my adderall infused dissertation on why im JACKED-TO-THE-TITS on this beaut. Now I know there are many valuable DDs on CRSR over there on wallstreetbets, but I decided to give my own opinion for the fuck of it.
Lets get some of the boring stuff out of the way first: (taken from their quarterly report ending sept 30 2020 which can be found on under "SEC filing" on the investor relations page of CRSRs website)
These numbers make me fucking wet. COVID was a huge accelerator for this company but I believe there are other catalysts that contributed and will continue to contribute to their growth in the future. REMEMBER these numbers are from June - September. They dont include the 4th quarter of 2020, nor do they include the numbers from the initial lockdown where we saw a lot of people really settling in to the new life of quarantine (and upgrading or buying their first computers) YES they do have some debt, but they recently did a public offering which raised 118.6m of which 86.6m was used to pay off debt. A statement from the quarterly filing :"We plan to continue to utilize our strong cash flow to further reduce our debt"
CRSR also announced the release of new products that will be for sale in OCTOBER of 2020. We will see how well they did in this upcoming earnings on the 9th. BUT, I am an amazon seller and can help get a general idea of how well they sold in Q4 through amazon. For other retailors I did my normal ground DD and traveled to a couple best buys and microcenters in my area to see the stock.
Before I get started I feel I need to explain some things: When an item is listed on amazon, it is given a "rank" which shows where the product is relative to other products in the same category. For example a rank of "1" means that product FLIES off the shelf, were as a ranked of 5m MIGHT sell 1 a month. Its used as a general guideline for amazon sellers to determine how products are doing. You can gather this information by scrolling down on an amazon page till you see the "sales rank #" or if you participate in retail arbitrage and that whole monster you can use a paid software called keepa.
SOME OF THE NEW PRODUCTS RELEASED
  1. Cooling systems: e H100i ELITE CAPELLIX, H115i ELITE CAPELLIX, and H150i ELITE CAPELLIX. These bad bois were sold out fucking everywhere. Great reviews checking multiple sites. Sales rank of 43 under cooling systems on amazon. They're moving this product FAST AND IN QUANITIES. Plus we all know how much we love our color changing shit.
  2. VENGEANCE i7200 Series: Pretty beast computer, it isn't sold on amazon and I actually didn't check the stocks of this guy in retail stores. So I cant really comment on this one.
  3. Corsair K100 RGB Keyboard: Low stock in retail stores, this thing is moving on amazon and seems to be doing pretty well on other online retailors.
  4. KATAR PRO WIRELESS Gaming Mouse: This one was interesting. There were more on the shelves than their other mice, but I attribute this to it not being a MMO mouse (lack of side buttons for those non gamers) but never the less showed strong competition on amazon with its Logitech counterparts ( it hovered around 1k sales rank from late October to current)
  5. Corsair MP400 Gen3 PCIe x4 NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive: New SSD, almost all of their SSDs have done well in the past. Mainly positive reviews with an extremely high review count.
  6. K60 RGB PRO Keyboard: Another keyboard, following the same trend line as the previous keyboard states (#3) sales for this keyboard however were decent (22k sales rank) until December hit, then it exploded (1k sales rank)
  7. HS60 HAPTIC Headset: I can personally attest to the quality of corsair headsets and cooling equipment, this shit is fantastic. They're durable for when you throw them and give far better audio and mic quality then their Logitech counterparts.
  8. CORSAIR HS75 XB WIRELESS: I bolded this one for a reason. This one wasn't very well received. Although there are a lot of youtube videos and other promoters saying how good it was, customers seemed to have encountered a lot of problems with it. (wouldn't work after a certain amount of time, weird functionality, etc.) BUT THIS IS A POSITIVE in my eyes. Things dont make sense when every product a company releases is fire, and this one sure seems that it wasn't. It does show however that a predominantly computer focused company is expanding into the console market. With talks of future consoles being able to be "upgraded", I believe they are making the move to further their growth within the console space at the perfect time. Of course there are gonna be a few road bumps.
That is quite of bit of products to release in such a short time span, but a perfect amount to release before the most profitable time of the year. They also announced their acquisition of EPCOM (5million downloads on the apple app store), Game sensei, the leading gaming coaching platform. They also announced a partnership deal with PIPELINE a leading streamer mentorship platform (I didn't even know this existed but did some digging and I like it). This leads me to my next point.
GAMING ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE EVEN AFTER THE PANDEMIC IS OVER.
Pro esports and streaming was already gaining a lot of steam pre pandemic, after the pandemic I still see a lot of growth for esports and gaming as a whole. To add, a lot of people try to emulate their favorite streamer or pro players (just like in traditional sports) people WILL BUY the gear that they are using just like people buy whatever it is that traditional sports players wear.
Streamers they sponsor
Teams they sponsor
I like these, a lot. They're biggest team the ROX tigers competes in multiple esports and has a huge fan following (20m). They also sponsor some pretty famous streamers (summit1g - the guy who basically started streaming, Voyboy - a ex pro league streamer that is still very involved with the community and Bajheera - big World of Warcraft player). What I LOVE about this that its not so focused on just NA alone. Example : ROX is a Korean team, showing that they are not only trying to grow their brand within the Americas, but worldwide as well.
THEY'RE GOING TO SMOKE THEIR EARNINGS
Corsair has a 41.9% share of the PC component market with an addressable market of 36B, they report a peripheriral market share of 18.9%. This is the smoke. This company has a LOT of room to grow and new areas to expand into. As shown above they keep producing new products within their main sector that are doing very well, while also expanding into other markets (consoles) Corsairs market cap sits at a steady 4B, while its primary competitor (LOGI) sits at a nice 19B market cap. Corsair can easily hit a 10B marketcap at its current growth. I firmly believe this company is far undervalued, but we will see just how undervalued after their earnings on the 8th.
If we take a look at estimates they are low (which does make me believe there might be a after earnings sell off because the estimates are so weak - everyone could be predicting a earnings beat). Last quarter they reported a EPS of 0.54 when 0.32 was estimated, yet for this quarter -including q4 of last year- the estimate sits at 0.46. Rev estimates sit at 555.27m on the high side for this quarter, they did 457m last quarter. Do they really expect me to believe that they are only gonna make an extra 100m compared to their last quarter which didn't have the Christmas in it?
With all the new product launches and lingering sales from previous products, I think they're gonna murder every estimate.
Now this is just my extremely bullish position and that im very fond of this company, love and use their products. I think they:
  1. Clear 600m Rev for the quarter
  2. Substantially decrease debt
  3. Provide great guidance
Last thoughts before I get to how im playing this. There's some other DDs (I'll have to find them and add them to this post) that touches on how good their streaming gear and software is that also shares the same bullish standpoint that I do (I didn't include this in the DD because I personally haven't looked into as the others DDs are sufficient for my confirmation bias).
Anyways, currently im running a covered strangle. Im more of a thetagang player so you'll see a lot of that aspect if I ever post again.
Positions: Sold 5 x 35p 2/19 Sold 5 x 50c 3/19 500 commons at 43$.
BuT WhY ThE PuTs If Ur So BuLlIsH
Obviously for the freemium. I LOVE this stock at 35-40 and would buy as much as I could afford. I really like this stock at 40-45, and I kinda like it above 50. But to me this isn't a earnings play, I see substantial growth for this company over the current year. I plan to easily 2-3x my money over the next 2-3 years.
Sadly, this is my first DD, so rip away.
Edit: this isn’t financial advice, just my opinion on why I like it. Also if your going to buy calls make sure you have a strong understanding of IV

Analysis: Assassin's Creed highlights a very concerning trend regarding how game audio is being poorly handled.

Updated @ 10:00 AM CST 01/12/2020: Thanks to the attention of my support thread on the Ubisoft Forum, Ubisoft have finally acknowledged that there are audio problems. They are urging users to reply with further information
Updated @ 11:55 AM CST 20/11/2020: I had no idea this thread would resonate with so many of you, please excuse the pun. You have my sincere thanks for the reactions, comments, recommendations, corrections and affirmations.

TL;DR summary

The audio quality throughout the AC series has been progressively getting worse. This post analyses Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla, exposing the fact that heavily compressed low bitrate 24,000 Hz audio is utilized across all three titles. Origins and Odyssey was less noticeable because it mixed higher quality 44,100 Hz ambient environment sounds with low resolution 24,000 Hz combat, character and UI sounds. Valhalla was recently discovered to be the worst offender since it uses 24,000 Hz audio across the board.
The aim here is to provide a technical explanation, cross-comparison and to raise awareness of this bad trend. Audio is a fundamental immersive component of any AAA video game, and should be presented with the same level of quality that you would expect within the film and TV industry.

Introduction

This started out as a technical analysis of the in-game audio present in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but it has since evolved into a topic of a wider scope; if you haven't played the past three AC games, Pandemic notwithstanding, let me be the first to tell you that we are in a predicament.
The idea of this thread is to not only educate, but try and prevent a problem before it becomes more of a problem. Since this is a technical subject, there will be references to sample rate, bit rate and codecs, but I feel like it is more common knowledge these days, especially due to the rise of content creators, or anyone who regularly deals with MP3 and video files.
Admittedly, there is much to talk about regarding Assassin's Creed, especially if you're of the opinion that the series died after the 2nd/Brotherhood or 3rd game. Set that conversation aside for a moment, grab a squeezy ball, punch a pillow, and let's talk about how Ubisoft are starting to set a horrible trend for in-game audio.
So I caved in like many others, gleeing at the prospect of virtually visiting my homeland as an axe-wielding maniac, and decided to pre-order Assassin's Creed Valhalla after thoroughly enjoying my time eliminating the cultists from Odyssey. On launch day during my first playthrough I noticed something that sounded eerily familiar.
I game using a pair of Mackie MR624 studio monitors, or if I feel like giving my neighbours a moment's rest, with my Beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO headphones. The audio I was hearing sounded muffled, or in layman's terms, a bit like listening through a pair of tin cans that were accidentally dropped into a cup of earl grey.

Analysis

Enough was enough, I put my investigative cap on and started by first extracting the audio files using Wwise-unpacker, and proceeding to analyse the files using Adobe Audition. I discovered that the SFX are saved at a 24,000 Hz sample rate, with a variable bitrate that peaks at around 70 kbps. Yes, mystery unravelled, it really is that bad. Those of you who do not fully appreciate this technical blunder, might better appreciate it if I put it this way. Visually, it is the equivalent of removing 50% of the colours in a painting, and leaving smears where the details are.
Here is a screenshot of my analysis.
Looking at the Frequency Analysis tab, you can very clearly observe a frequency rolloff at around 11000 Hz. The low bitrate issue is also not just limited to the PC release. It is affecting all platforms.
This is an unusually strict choice of compression considering that the English audio and SFX only take up 4.5 GB of hard disk space. Standard CD audio is at 44,100 Hz (DVD standard is 48,000 Hz), and those are the two sample rates that nearly every streaming service, sound device and operating system are designed to work with.
Now, you may have heard people say "Oh, but your ears cannot hear above 20 kHz, so the missing detail is irrelevant". Unfortunately, there is complexity surrounding this issue that the statement fails to address. Firstly, when you take a 24,000 Hz sound, the highest audible frequency will be 12,000 Hz. This is already 8000 Hz lower than what the human ear can detect. When frequencies are missing from the original sound, it also negatively impacts the entire representation of that sound. The more you remove, the more hollow and less defined it becomes.
Are you curious to hear the difference?

Side by side audio comparison

This morning I recorded a YouTube video to highlight the differences between 24,000 Hz and 48,000 Hz.
Technical analysis of the poor quality audio used on Assassin's Creed
If you'd rather hear a lossless version of the presentation, you can download the audio file here.
Alternatively, you may also download the individual sound files used for the basis of this comparison: ¹sounds_sfx_3369_high_quality & ²sounds_sfx_3369_low_quality
To help provide an even more visual description of the issue at hand, here's a comparitive study of sample rates performed by a reputable audio company.

The Nyquist theorem

It has been over ten years since I last sat in an audio theory class, so I'm likely over-simplifying the technical details of this theorem. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, and in addition, I would highly suggest reading an external official scientific resource.
The Nyquist theorem describes this better. Named after a Swedish-born American electronic engineer who worked on the speed of telegraphs in the 1920s, the Nyquist theorem states that a waveform must be sampled twice in order to get a true representation. The sampling frequency must be at least twice the highest signal frequency recorded in order to be effective. Here is a table showing the Sample rate vs. Highest Frequency.
Sample rate Highest Frequency
22,050 Hz 11,025 Hz
24,000 Hz 12,000 Hz
30,000 Hz 15,000 Hz
44,100 Hz 22,050 Hz
48,000 Hz 24,000 Hz
As a result, if the highest frequency a human can hear is around 20,000 Hz, then 40,000 Hz is the lowest sampling rate you can use to accurately represent any sound that a human can hear. If you are listening to a recording of "bad audio", but to you it sounds acceptable, the issues are probably one of the following:
  1. Bad equipment: headphones, speakers or an improper sound configuration.
  2. The highest frequency of the sound in question was one half of the sample rate used.
  3. Your hearing is damaged or has deteriorated naturally with age. By the time we approach 40 years old, most of us will not able to discern individual tones above 15,000 Hz. If you would like to test your ears, try this Human Hearing Benchmark. As a safety precaution, only perform this test at a medium or low volume.
Even though the highest frequency our ears can detect is around 20,000 Hz, the sound frequencies that exists beyond our hearing range (overtones) greatly colour and impact the sound we hear. Therefore when we record digital audio and cut out those frequencies above 22,050 Hz with a high pass filter (we have to use a filter or else they would cause aliasing or noise in the sample), we are actually changing the original sound that we were trying to record. If you raise the sample rate, the recording will be more accurate. The trade-off is that it takes up more storage. Partly sourced from another post. ScienceDirect overview.
This theorem is still used today to digitize analog signals, nearly 100 years after Nyquist was an engineer at Bell Laboratories.

Oi mate! Don't take me for a mug.

This is when I had a revelation, realising that this issue has been slowly getting worse and worse with every new Assassin's Creed title released. The games are getting bigger, and sacrifices are being made as a result. I first noticed it with AC:Origins, but because some sounds are higher quality than others, it masks the issue to an extent.
Let me clarify further. Both Origins and Odyssey have high quality stereo ambient background sounds that are bounced to 44,100 Hz with an average variable bitrate of 241 kbps, but then you have all of the mono UI, voice, interaction, footstep and fighting sounds that are bounced to 24,000 Hz, all lacking any convincing spatialization, unceremoniously resulting in a bubbling cauldron that is extremely disconcerting to the trained ear. I say trained, but if you take a minute to search online you will discover that gamers, including some gamers with hearing impairments, picked up on this very quickly and early on. Why? We care about sound.
To summarise how Origins and Odyssey attempts to mask the issue: Even though certain frequencies are missing from non-ambient sounds, the detailed ambience and music in the background compensates psychoacoustically for what is missing. Valhalla sounds worse because it sacrificed more, and it does not have any high quality ambient sounds.
There are far too many links to post, so here's only a small subset of threads that I hand picked, all complaining about the same thing. First up, Origins. ¹Really poor audio quality for voices ²I can't get into origins because of the bad audio quality ³What's up with Assassins Creed Origins audio?Audio quality is so bad for AC OriginsTerrible Audio Quality Origins
Does it get better with Odyssey? Not exactly. ¹Terrible audio ²Audio quality for Odyssey ³Anyone experience poor audio quality with Odyssey?Audio quality is so badDoes the audio sound weird for anyone else?
Aaaaannndd Valhalla. ¹Why have no critics mentioned the terrible audio? ²Has anyone notice the weird audio quality in the recent AC games? ³Assassin's Creed Valhalla audio is the worst of any game I've played Audio is terrible in AC valhallaBad audio in the gameAssassin's Creed Valhalla audio is still bad and horridTerrible sound on PC.
It's also worth noting that these games support DTS Digital Surround. This can be confirmed by observing the DTS logo printed on the disc itself.
DTS audio bit rate values can be 1.5 Mbps 48/96 kHz, 16/24 bits (or with DTS-HD the bit rate can be 4.5 or 6.144 Mbps for encoded data), but due to the heavily compressed nature of the audio files in-game, it is not fully taking advantage of what this technology has to offer.

The Why?

My first question was: is the sacrifice of quality an attempt to try and cram as much in to meet a specific distribution criteria? I've spoken to a few people within the gaming industry personally about this, and the general consensus seems to be: Yes. Please pitch in here if you've had any first hand experience dealing with this. Realistically, it should only affect products within the physical realm, such as trying to compress the game in order to fit it onto a 50 GB (dual-layer) Blu-ray disc. Digital media does not suffer from this limitation, can be downloaded at our convenience and is much cheaper to distribute.
If they provided the sound at 44,100 Hz (CD Quality) with an average variable bitrate of 128-192 kbps, as an example, similar to the quality you would expect from streaming a song on Spotify, you would see the total size of the in-game audio increase from its heavily compressed 4.5 GB to approximately 9-12 GB. At a minimum it would be 9 GB since we are doubling the sample rate. Still not very large, but it would be a light and day difference for sound quality.
If you're curious to experiment with file size estimations, here's a neat audio filesize calculator.

Is there a solution?

The idealistic solution would be to re-export all sound effects and voice using a sample rate of 44.1 kHz, with the OGG quality parameter set between -q 0.4 and -q 0.6. They could then deliver this as a compulsory patch or a free regional high quality sound pack DLC.
Popular games such as Skyrim, Fallout 4, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Call of Duty: Warzone, Monster Hunter: World and even Ubisoft's own Watch Dogs 2 have all received DLC addons that increase the quality of the game experience.

Final thoughts

Is it acceptable to allow such a fundamental aspect of a game to suffer a significant loss of frequencies in order to meet that distribution criteria? Absolutely not. This sets a neglectful precedent and one that not only severely destroys immersion, but attempts to normalize poor quality sound to the masses. Here's another question for you. If you bought a Blu-ray box set of your favourite show or movie trilogy, would you be satisified knowing that they replaced the lossless DTS-HD 5.1 audio with muddy, tinny, anti-climatic explosions worthy of being peer-traded on KaZaA and Limewire? (I was born in the 80's so please excuse the reference).
Consumer expectations within the film and gaming industry aren't that different, VR is evolving and the lines are blurring with every new AAA title. We are starting to expect the same kind of treatment: Detailed facial micro expressions, lip syncing, motion capture, in-game characters based on the likeness of real world actors and actresses, quality voice acting, and dare I say it, high quality sound effects, more commonly referred to as Foley within the film industry.
I do not game in one room with a sub-par home media center, and watch films in another where my favourite monolith shaped speakers sit in each corner. If they were sentient and had a mouth and a stomach, I would expect vomit on the floor every time I embark on my journey with Odin. Instead, I have to deal with my audio producer brain punching my cochlea from the inside.

Final, final thoughts

Oddly many of the official reviews of AC:Valhalla I have read so far completely fail to mention the audio issues, and this is concerning. The issues are so obvious that they must have either purposefully omitted the critique, have sub-par sound systems, or couldn't care less. I remember back in the day when video games magazine reviewers took pride in providing a detailed opinion of sound effects and music. Fond memories of reading Zzap!64, Amiga Power and GamesMaster back in the day.
How do you guys feel about it? To me, the $60 price tag is a bit of a kick in the teeth, and I feel that Ubisoft should really have audio technicalities down to a T. Is this what we are meant to expect for a title with a AAA budget? Am I crazy for writing or caring this much?
Ubisoft could learn a thing or two from the guys and gals responsible for Middle-earth: Shadow of War. They released 4K cinematics for free, along with higher quality in-game assets. We deserve to optionally download HD quality assets for Assassin's Creed, especially since there are many gamers among us that invest a great deal of time and money into our home cinema set-ups.
Here is a current thread following this topic on the Ubisoft Player Support Forum:
Audio Issues: Bitrate / Dynamics & Balance / Muffled Sounds / Stuttering / Volume etc. | POST HERE
If you read this all the way to the end, thank you. Let's hope that the trend of heavily compressed audio dies hard.
On a side note, since I've had a few people ask: I'm a music producer and songwriter on the side. Software dev by trade. Gaming, music and audio means everything to me.

This Week At Bungie 12/10/2020

Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/49971
This week at Bungie, Hawkmoon, next-gen, and the Dawning, oh my!
OK, so it’s been another action-packed week with updates to the game and news about the future, so let’s just get into it. We started off on Tuesday with an early morning dev update on the state of rewards in the game. We wanted to share some of the plans to improve rewards as well as a few other exciting things coming up. The whole update is definitely worth a read, but I stole some bullets:
That very same day, Update 3.0.1 went live with several important fixes as well as next-gen enhancements for consoles so you can experience the beauty of Destiny 2 with moar frames and moar FOV! We wrote up an article that covers these new enhancements in detail as well as the new ability to pick up bounties from the Companion App and the return of the Prophecy dungeon.
This week also saw the return of Hawkmoon. The highly sought-after Exotic Hand Cannon makes its debut into Destiny 2 with a reworked perk that no longer relies on RNG but still packs a punch. Season Pass owners can now visit Spider to set off on the quest to claim their Hawkmoon.

The Dawning

This very merry morning we shared a peek at this year’s Dawning event that kicks off next week!
Video Link
Eva Levante is coming to town! She has new cookie recipes and new gifts for all the good Guardians... even if they did adopt Darkness powers.
But I digress. Check out our Dawning page for a quick look at what the event has to offer this year. The Tower is going to be all dressed up again, and we’re putting the Griswold touch on the decorations.
Image Linkimgur
Everyone knows the best gifts vaporize your enemies. Glacioclasm is a new Legendary Fusion Rifle being introduced during this event with random rolls available so each one you open is special. Plus - Glacioclasm is just fun to say. Try saying it without smiling, I dare you! I double-dog dare you. Anyway, here is a preview of the weapon.
Image Linkimgur
As you are flying around delivering baked goods you will need a new ship to spread cheer in style. Eva has a new Exotic ship that you will be able to upgrade throughout the event to change its look. You will be able to customize the engine streams, different spawn effects, and unlock a new animated shader unique to the ship!
Image Linkimgur
Eva has also set up a fun new celebration for this year's Dawning that involves even more gifts... for you! As the community generates Dawning Spirit by completing activities you will be able to progress a special community pursuit with your cookie skills and then find new gifts waiting for you under the tree. The big glowy one, you can’t miss it. We don’t want to spoil all the surprises but you may find some upgrade materials in these gifts.
There will also be some fun stuff at the Eververse store as well. All of the new items added to the store will be available at some point for Bright Dust with the exception of the Glee Barrage and Merry Maker weapon ornaments and Happy Trails finisher which will be available for Silver. Here is a preview of a few of the Sparrows, Ghost Shells, and a ship that are sure to get you in the spirit.

Super Smash Warlock Melee

Shortly after launch, we put out a hotfix to reel in Stasis a bit. When we made these changes we wanted them to have as much efficacy as possible and that meant using broad strokes to cover a lot of ground. This led to us hitting Penumbral Blast's range harder than many players felt was necessary. Upon review and hearing the feedback we felt that while Penumbral Blast's range needed to come in - there is room to push it back out and have it feel more consistent when hitting targets at range. Here is a preview of patch notes coming in a hotfix next week.

Penumbral Blast:
  • Projectile range increased by 37%
  • Minimum distance to cast ranged melee reduced by 32%.
    • This allows you to throw the ranged melee closer to targets.

One... Million... Dollars

Image Linkimgur
You have been absolutely crushing it raising money to support the Bungie Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. As of this writing you have raised 1,036,555 so far and you still have until December 13 to donate to a cause that benefits sick kids across the country. If you haven’t donated yet, there are some great prize incentives listed here for donating.
Speaking of incentives, now that we have hit $1 million we are going to start releasing Destiny lore readings by the following special guests for every $50,000 donation milestone we hit!
  • Giacomo Gianniotti: Dr. Andrew DeLuca, Grey’s Anatomy
  • Morla Gorrondona: Eris Morn, Destiny 2
  • Erika Ishii: Ana Bray, Destiny 2
  • Peter Jessop: Guardian/Exo Male, Destiny 2
  • Neil Kaplan: Dominus Ghaul, Destiny 2
  • Nyambi Nyambi: Jay Dipersia, The Good Fight
  • Brandon O'Neill: Uldren Sov, Destiny 2
  • Moira Quirk: Emissary/The Exo StrangeOrin, Destiny 2
  • Zehra Fazal: Guardian, Destiny 2
Thank you to everyone who has donated or volunteered to help raise money through streams and other incentives. It’s always amazing what this community can do when it comes together. Finish strong!

Spreading Update Cheer

Image Linkimgur
We had another deployment this week which means our player support specialists were watching closely and tracking any issues that popped up.
This is their report.

CONNECTION AND SERVER ISSUES

Since Update 3.0.1.1 on December 8, we’ve been investigating various connection issues, including the following error codes: PRUNE, and WEASEL. The BEE, CACAO, CENTIPEDE, and CHICKEN error codes have since been resolved.

TRIALS OF OSIRIS REWARD SCHEDULE

Trials of Osiris is expected to return on December 18. Due to the delay of launching Trials, a few changes were made to the reward schedule: During the first four weeks, the Flawless chest will drop an Adept Weapon. The fifth week will drop an armor piece, with subsequent weeks switching the rewards back and forth between Adept weapons and armor as previously mentioned here. Adept weapon mods will drop each week.

PS4 FRIENDS LIST UPDATE

Since the launch of Beyond Light, we’ve been investigating an issue for PlayStation 4 players who could only see a small number of their friends online in their Roster. We discovered this issue only affected those with more than 100 friends in their Roster. This issue has been resolved, but after further testing we discovered another issue affecting how online friends are displayed. That issue will be fixed on December 14 in Hotfix 3.0.1.2.

XBOX SERIES X|S FREEZING ISSUE

While unlikely, it’s possible that Destiny 2 may freeze up when signing out of an Xbox Live profile while inside the game. We recommend quitting out of the Destiny 2 app first before signing out. If the game does freeze, players can press the Xbox Guide button on their controller, select Destiny 2, and then select Quit. This issue will be fixed on December 14 in Hotfix 3.0.1.2.

VESPER OF RADIUS UPDATE

Last Friday, we disabled Vesper of Radius due to it being possible to cast a Rift while falling off a ledge which, when combined with Stasis, could result in a quick lethal combo to opposing players in Crucible. Rift energy wasn’t being used, so it was possible to repeat again right after execution. This issue will be fixed on December 17 in Hotfix 3.0.1.3.

SPOILS OF CONQUEST

We’re investigating an issue where players can put their Spoils of Conquest raid currency in their vault, resulting in it disappearing. While we continue our investigation, players should refrain from putting Spoils of Conquest in their vault.

NEXT-GEN UPDATES

Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players who are migrating from Xbox One and PlayStation 4, respectively, will need to download the full-size version of Destiny 2 to get all of the benefits of our next-gen update. For more information, please read our TWAB from December 3.
PlayStation 4 players upgrading to PlayStation 5 may need to highlight Destiny 2 on the PlayStation 5 home screen or PlayStation 5 Store, click the three dots menu, and select the PlayStation 5 Upgrade download. Click here for more information.

Along with our next-gen updates, we discovered that some player settings on PC were transferred to players’ console accounts if they are Cross Saved. Until we can implement a fix, console players experiencing FPS or screen-tearing issues can go into their game’s Settings > Video, and choose “Reset to Default” to resolve these issues.

KNOWN ISSUES

While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:
  • We’re investigating reports that cross-gen matchmaking sometimes doesn’t work.
  • FPS issues on PC. Please help us determine the cause by posting your information in this thread.
  • PlayStation Remote Play reverts controller remapping and may not function at all.
  • Deafening Whisper doesn’t trigger the Abyssal Extractors perk on Nezarec’s Sin Exotic helmet.
  • Nezarec’s Sin Exotic helmet no longer triggers for five seconds after the second kill and all buff kills are now 2.5 seconds. This is intentional, but we failed to call it out in the patch notes for Update 3.0.0.1. The “original” functionality was a bug that applied 2.5 seconds twice for each subsequent kill.
  • Necrotic Grip doesn’t give melee energy on corrupted combatant kills. This is intentional, and the Exotic will be updated to remove the text mentioning this.
  • Necrotic Grip doesn’t poison combatants when a ranged melee attack breaks their shield from full.
  • Honed for Speed and Ascendant Champion Triumphs don't unlock when completing the Keep of Honed Edges Ascendant Challenge.
  • Toland doesn’t appear in the Shattered Ruins Ascendant Challenge.
  • Surrounded perk buff does not linger when using Surrounded Spec mod.
  • True Prophecy has been removed from world loot pool. This is intentional.
  • The Shotgun Dexterity arm mod shown in legs category in Collections.
  • The Line in the Sand weapon model has random protrusion when held.
  • The Unrelenting weapon perk isn’t functional.
  • Lost Lament quest sometimes needs to be abandoned and reacquired to continue.
  • Thunderlord is currently missing its scope.
  • The Ahamkara Bones may not spawn in the Agonarch Abyss Ascendant Challenge.
For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players can review our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.

This is going to be the last TWAB of the year. Don’t worry, we’re not all going on a big hiatus at once. We will still be around. This is the time of year where many of us like to take some time away from work to be recharged and enjoy the cold wet darkness of the PNW at home with the fam. I mean, we were at home already, but now we’re not talking to our computers all day. We’ve made sure that the feedback is still flowing, and that you have the latest info on ongoing issues and anything new that pops up. The Dawning isn’t the only thing starting next week, we also have raid challenges going live for Deep Stone Crypt so keep an eye out for that.
It’s been a wild year. It’s almost hard to remember what it was like to be in the studio at this point. Depending on how everything shakes out it will be nice to get back there sometime next year. Until then, we will keep plugging away from our offices, living rooms, garages, patios, and other random rooms around our homes. We still have a lot of work to do. We shared some of our short-term plans with you this week, and there is a whole lot more coming in 2021 as well. See you next year!

Separate Audio in OBS (using FREE programs + Easy Voicemeeter Tutorial)

Want to know How To Separate Audio Sources in OBS studio, like game audio, spotify, alerts, or anything else, and be able to control them for your Twitch and YouTube streams? I will show you how to easily manage all the different audio inputs easily in OBS studio, using free software and give you an easy Voicemeeter Banana Tutorial. I have also created this same walkthrough as a video tutorial, and will post that link below!

How how to set up on computer and OBS (windows Only): Download and install Voice Meeter Banana and also download and install all Virtual cables. Restart computer! This is important, you must restart computer! After restart, make sure to open up Voice Meeter Banana and ensure this app opens every time at startup (you can also do this in menu).
Next, Open spotify app and play a song, then go into sound settings at the windows search bar and then scroll down and click into advanced sound options. Now set default sounds to V-cable-A and spotify to V-cable-B. then open up discord, go into settings and make output device be V-cable-C.
Open Voice Meeter Banana. Make track one input as WDM Cable A, track two as B, track 3 as C, and rename those accordingly. Then on these tracks choose outputs as for each as A1 and A2. Next, on Banana HARDWARE OUT (top right) choose A1 as your PC cases built-in output to speakers (mine is Realtek(R)), then choose A2 as V-cable Input (NO LETTER). Adjust your volumes as desired. I like mine as shown.
Then in OBS studio, go into settings, audio and make sure all 6 channels are disabled. Next, create a new Scene called “computer sounds”. In this scene create a new source for AUDIO OUTPUT CAPTURE. When prompted, choose V-cable Input (NO LETTER). Finally, just add that scene into any scene in OBS studio you want these sounds in and bamm!

What Is Parler and Why It Grows Into A Proper Twitter Alternative

What Is Parler and Why It Grows Into A Proper Twitter Alternative
Only during a week, the number of unbiased social media Parler users have grown by half up to 8 million users, especially following the 2020 US election .
With strict content moderation policy on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter flagging users for various reasons, an alternative social media channel is growing in popularity.
Parler was launched in 2018 and back then, it was an obscure app trying to compete with giants like Facebook and Twitter.
And if in 2018 users downloaded the app about 2,000 times a day, now it’s one of the most popular apps in the US. Why?

https://preview.redd.it/nx0f02u8zh661.jpg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc04858af100742f26d2e7f46c577ec211c12f83

What is Parler

Parler is a social media site that claims to be "the world's premier free speech platform" and is built on the idea that social media shouldn't care what users write or tell. Parler sees itself as an alternative social media site, like Bitchute being an alternative to YouTube.
Tip: did you know that you could download video content from Bitchute right on your PC with 4K Video Downloader ? Just install the app, copy the link of the video and paste it into the 4K Video Downloader app. The video will be automatically saved on your device.
Parler interface is pretty similar to Twitter’s: it has a newsfeed, search tab, notifications tab and DM.

https://preview.redd.it/7nq93ur9zh661.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=1c512fbd132215b296e6f6706cde6f4b183d753c
You can download Parler app on your smartphone from the App Store or Google Play .
Parler has the so-called 'Community Jury' which enforces their community guidelines based on "fair and just legal precedent". In its guidelines, Parler also reserves the right to remove a user's content or ban them from the platform "at any time for any reason".
The platform provides users with a wide variety of tools to moderate posts they see. This includes blocking users or filtering out posts with certain keywords. Parler calls this an opportunity to control your own world while not interfering with the general content on the platform.
It also has a special "Parler Citizen Verification" process to detect and deter bots.

Why Parler grows so popular

During the last few weeks, Parler has been growing extremely popular, especially when many American conservatives flocking from Twitter and Facebook for Parler. And the reason for it is the policy of the mainstream social media in terms of free speech and Trump’s tweets during the US election above all - Twitter flagged the majority of his tweets as disputed.

How Parler works

Functionally, Parler works similarly to other social media platforms like Twitter or Facebook: users are suggested with people and topics to follow while they can control their own news feeds. Just like on Facebook and Twitter, Parler users can reshare content as well.
The site allows the posting of photos and GIFs, as well as videos from YouTube .
Home page suggests you updates of the people and accounts you follow. The Discover News page offers you latest news and updates from Parler’s partners and affiliates. You can also search for the content you’re interested in by heading to the search page and entering names or hashtags.

How is Parler different from Twitter or Facebook

In terms of content, Parler policy has fewer rules than Facebook or Twitter, thus there are fewer restrictions and limitations for users who want to express their views freely. Parler also doesn't have third-party fact-checkers to flag misinformation and fake news.
However, some types of content allowed on Twitter are prohibited on Parler, such as pornography. Apart from sexual content, Parler prohibits terrorist posts, spam, unsolicited ads, threats to harm, blackmail, and content that shows violence against animals.
Parler also has different-coloured verification badges. A gold badge is for public figures with a large following, and a red badge indicates that an account is a real person and not a bot.
Like Instagram, Parler has rules against spam, which include "repetitive comments and posts which are irrelevant to the conversation."
The site doesn't have rules prohibiting hate speech, but it does have policies against obscene content, meaning content that's sexual in nature, offensive and lacks "serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value."

This platform’s rules are less restrictive than Twitter’s or Facebook’s: generally, people don’t get flagged or banned for publishing alternative opinions. For this reason, Parler is mistakenly considered as a platform of alt-righters and fascists, but that’s not exactly true.

Posts edit feature

A feature that Twitter never has and more likely will never have but which is so longed by users: the ability to edit posts and comments. Parler has it. But you can edit your posts only within 24 hours after publication.

Verification badge for everyone

Parler allows everyone to get verified, unlike Twitter. All you need to do for this is to upload your selfie and the ID card photo. Then your profile will have a badge that verifies you’re a real person.

Tip other people

On Parler, you can link your credit card to your account, get donations and tip other users if you like their content. Thus you can even monetise your ideas.

Parler: cons

Narrow-niche content

The platform is all about politics and business. If you’re more interested in other topics, Parler might feel boring for you. But over time, more people of different interests will join the platform.

1000 characters

Unlike Twitter’s 280 characters, Parler allows you to use maximum 1000 characters. Twitter’s thing and the reason why it became so popular is these few characters allowed to be used in a tweet and still make it sound cool. Parler makes it almost a proper blogging site with so many characters allowed.

[Guide] How to claim the Epic Game Store (EGS) weapon skins without having to re-download the entire game

Heya, this guide will show you how to claim the new Unreal Tournament Weapon Bundle, (hype video shown here).
This guide is for PC only, although Rebecca has said that Console players might be able to acquire the skins at some point in the future.
This assumes you are on the Steam version, but it should still be doable with the standalone version.
Per condratiy, the only main difference with the standalone version (besides for folder location), is that you copy materials from \Warframe\Downloaded\Public, instead of from \Warframe
Sorry it's a bit... verbose, I figured I should be as detailed as possible.
Disclaimer, while this is unlikely to happen, if following this guide leads to files getting deleted or you having to fully re-download the game, that's not my fault.
Fix for Epic Games Launcher "flickering" (seeming to close and reopen rapidly) can be found here. Also might require latest Win10 update, unsure.
Alternative simple method that uses symbolic links instead of copying over files, courtesy of fwyr, can be found here. I'm rusty on symlinks, so any issues/troubleshooting should be directed to them if possible.
1) Make sure you have a (free) Epic Games account, and have the Epic Games Launcher installed.
2) On Epic Games (either in browser, or the store app), "get" Warframe here; and then "get" the Weapon Bundle here
3) Close Steam, launch the Epic Games Launcher
4) Within the Epic Games Launcher, go to your Library, click Warframe, and click Install. It will ask you to choose a location, the default one should be fine. It will "install" Warframe super quickly, because it's just getting the launcher.
5) Launch Warframe. It will pop up the normal Warframe Launcher, give you some EULAS and TOS's to accept without reading after totally having read the whole documents. It will then start to download a godawful amount, showing like 50gb left to go. Close the Warframe launcher.
6) Navigate to your existing Warframe install. If on Steam, it can be found by opening Steam, right-clicking on Warframe in your library -> Manage -> Browse local files.
7) Select all the files in this steamapps\common\Warframe folder (or if on standalone, from \Warframe\Downloaded\Public) and if you have hard drive space, copy them. If not, you can cut + paste, but if something goes wrong, you'll have more trouble getting your existing install back easily.
8) Go to the folder that Epic Games started to download Warframe to. By default, it will be C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Warframe, and paste the existing install files into the \Downloaded folder. Again, the destination folder should be \Epic Games\Warframe\Downloaded, not \Epic Games\Warframe.
9) Go back to the Epic Games Launcher, and launch Warframe, it will think for a second, and you may have to accept the legal documents again, but at that point it should just let you launch the game.
10) Log into your Warframe account like normal, and you should be greeted with a message similar to this. If this doesn't occur, try closing the game, deleting Warframe.x64.exe from the Epic Games\Warframe\Downloaded folder, and re-launching.
11) At this point, either continue to play via the Epic Games Launcher, or move your install back to the Steam folder, or delete the new install, depending on if you copied or moved your existing install.
12) That's it! Kudos to jag292 for providing some useful info in figuring out the process and condratiy for info on standalone client.
Edit: Syandana will be delivered when logging in after the just-released Hotfix 29.5.8!
Edit 2: Wow this has blown up (terrible pun totally intended). Not like I'm expecting anything from this, but if anyone was thinking of chipping in something in game to me... Don't. Instead find some new player and answer a couple questions, or maybe get them a booster or something. I still remember the first time I played Warframe, right after I got to my orbiter a random player answered a bunch of questions I had in the ended up bringing me to a mission to get some credits. It was a simple gesture but it meant the world to me, and I've done my best to try to pass that along to other players.
But if you are deadset on giving something to me, my IGN is .Raf, and I have a wishlist /EndRamble

NYT article on scammers.

Not really about Kitboga. The author talks to Jim Browning. Very interesting. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/27/magazine/scam-call-centers.html
[Edit: adding the text of the article which was sent to me by a friend from a call center]
Who’s Making All Those Scam Calls?
One afternoon in December 2019, Kathleen Langer, an elderly grandmother who lives by herself in Crossville, Tenn., got a phone call from a person who said he worked in the refund department of her computer manufacturer. The reason for the call, he explained, was to process a refund the company owed Langer for antivirus and anti-hacking protection that had been sold to her and was now being discontinued. Langer, who has a warm and kind voice, couldn’t remember purchasing the plan in question, but at her age, she didn’t quite trust her memory. She had no reason to doubt the caller, who spoke with an Indian accent and said his name was Roger.
He asked her to turn on her computer and led her through a series of steps so that he could access it remotely. When Langer asked why this was necessary, he said he needed to remove his company’s software from her machine. Because the protection was being terminated, he told her, leaving the software on the computer would cause it to crash.
After he gained access to her desktop, using the program TeamViewer, the caller asked Langer to log into her bank to accept the refund, $399, which he was going to transfer into her account. “Because of a technical issue with our system, we won’t be able to refund your money on your credit card or mail you a check,” he said. Langer made a couple of unsuccessful attempts to log in. She didn’t do online banking too often and couldn’t remember her user name.
Frustrated, the caller opened her bank’s internet banking registration form on her computer screen, created a new user name and password for her and asked her to fill out the required details — including her address, Social Security number and birth date. When she typed this last part in, the caller noticed she had turned 80 just weeks earlier and wished her a belated happy birthday. “Thank you!” she replied.
After submitting the form, he tried to log into Langer’s account but failed, because Langer’s bank — like most banks — activates a newly created user ID only after verifying it by speaking to the customer who has requested it. The caller asked Langer if she could go to her bank to resolve the issue. “How far is the bank from your house?” he asked.
A few blocks away, Langer answered. Because it was late afternoon, however, she wasn’t sure if it would be open when she got there. The caller noted that the bank didn’t close until 4:30, which meant she still had 45 minutes. “He was very insistent,” Langer told me recently. On her computer screen, the caller typed out what he wanted her to say at the bank. “Don’t tell them anything about the refund,” he said. She was to say that she needed to log in to check her statements and pay bills.
Langer couldn’t recall, when we spoke, if she drove to the bank or not. But later that afternoon, she rang the number the caller had given her and told him she had been unable to get to the bank in time. He advised her to go back the next morning. By now, Langer was beginning to have doubts about the caller. She told him she wouldn’t answer the phone if he contacted her again.
“Do you care about your computer?” he asked. He then uploaded a program onto her computer called Lock My PC and locked its screen with a password she couldn’t see. When she complained, he got belligerent. “You can call the police, the F.B.I., the C.I.A.,” he told her. “If you want to use your computer as you were doing, you need to go ahead as I was telling you or else you will lose your computer and your money.” When he finally hung up, after reiterating that he would call the following day, Langer felt shaken.
Minutes later, her phone rang again. This caller introduced himself as Jim Browning. “The guy who is trying to convince you to sign into your online banking is after one thing alone, and that is he wants to steal your money,” he said.
Langer was mystified that this new caller, who had what seemed to be a strong Irish accent, knew about the conversations she had just had. “Are you sure you are not with this group?” she asked.
He replied that the same scammers had targeted him, too. But when they were trying to connect remotely to his computer, as they had done with hers, he had managed to secure access to theirs. For weeks, that remote connection had allowed him to eavesdrop on and record calls like those with Langer, in addition to capturing a visual record of the activity on a scammer’s computer screen.
“I’m going to give you the password to unlock your PC because they use the same password every time,” he said. “If you type 4-5-2-1, you’ll unlock it.”
Langer keyed in the digits.
“OK! It came back on!” she said, relieved.
For most people, calls like the one Langer received are a source of annoyance or anxiety. According to the F.B.I.’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, the total losses reported to it by scam victims increased to $3.5 billion in 2019 from $1.4 billion in 2017. Last year, the app Truecaller commissioned the Harris Poll to survey roughly 2,000 American adults and found that 22 percent of the respondents said they had lost money to a phone scam in the past 12 months; Truecaller projects that as many as 56 million Americans may have been victimized this way, losing nearly $20 billion.
The person who rescued Langer that afternoon delights in getting these calls, however. “I’m fascinated by scams,” he told me. “I like to know how they work.” A software engineer based in the United Kingdom, he runs a YouTube channel under the pseudonym Jim Browning, where he regularly posts videos about his fraud-fighting efforts, identifying call centers and those involved in the crimes. He began talking to me over Skype in the fall of 2019 — and then sharing recordings like the episode with Langer — on the condition that I not reveal his identity, which he said was necessary to protect himself against the ire of the bad guys and to continue what he characterizes as his activism. Maintaining anonymity, it turns out, is key to scam-busting and scamming alike. I’ll refer to him by his middle initial, L.
The goal of L.’s efforts and those of others like him is to raise the costs and risks for perpetrators, who hide behind the veil of anonymity afforded by the internet and typically do not face punishment. The work is a hobby for L. — he has a job at an I.T. company — although it seems more like an obsession. Tracking scammers has consumed much of L.’s free time in the evenings over the past few years, he says, except for several weeks in March and April last year, when the start of the coronavirus pandemic forced strict lockdowns in many parts of the world, causing call centers from which much of this activity emanates to temporarily suspend operations. Ten months later, scamming has “gone right back to the way it was before the pandemic,” L. told me earlier this month.
Like L., I was curious to learn more about phone scammers, having received dozens of their calls over the years. They have offered me low interest rates on my credit-card balances, promised to write off my federal student loans and congratulated me on having just won a big lottery. I’ve answered fraudsters claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service who threaten to send the police to my doorstep unless I agree to pay back taxes that I didn’t know I owed — preferably in the form of iTunes gift cards or by way of a Western Union money transfer. Barring a few exceptions, the individuals calling me have had South Asian accents, leading me to suspect that they are calling from India. On several occasions, I’ve tested this theory by letting the voice on the other end go on for a few minutes before I suddenly interrupt with a torrent of Hindi curses that I retain full mastery of even after living in the United States for the past two decades. I haven’t yet failed to elicit a retaliatory offensive in Hindi. Confirming that these scammers are operating from India hasn’t given me any joy. Instead, as an Indian expatriate living in the United States, I’ve felt a certain shame.
L. started going after scammers when a relative of his lost money to a tech-support swindle, a common scheme with many variants. Often, it starts when the mark gets a call from someone offering unsolicited help in ridding a computer’s hard drive of malware or the like. Other times, computer users looking for help stumble upon a website masquerading as Microsoft or Dell or some other computer maker and end up dialing a listed number that connects them to a fraudulent call center. In other instances, victims are tricked by a pop-up warning that their computer is at risk and that they need to call the number flashing on the screen. Once someone is on the phone, the scammers talk the caller into opening up TeamViewer or another remote-access application on his or her computer, after which they get the victim to read back unique identifying information that allows them to establish control over the computer.
L. flips the script. He starts by playing an unsuspecting target. Speaking in a polite and even tone, with a cadence that conveys naïveté, he follows instructions and allows the scammer to connect to his device. This doesn’t have any of his actual data, however. It is a “virtual machine,” or a program that simulates a functioning desktop on his computer, including false files, like documents with a fake home address. It looks like a real computer that belongs to someone. “I’ve got a whole lot of identities set up,” L. told me. He uses dummy credit-card numbers that can pass a cursory validation check.
The scammer’s connection to L.’s virtual machine is effectively a two-way street that allows L. to connect to the scammer’s computer and infect it with his own software. Once he has done this, he can monitor the scammer’s activities long after the call has ended; sometimes for months, or as long as the software goes undetected. Thus, sitting in his home office, L. is able to listen in on calls between scammer and targets — because these calls are made over the internet, from the scammer’s computer — and watch as the scammer takes control of a victim’s computer. L. acknowledged to me that his access to the scammer’s computer puts him at legal risk; without the scammer’s permission, establishing that access is unlawful. But that doesn’t worry him. “If it came down to someone wanting to prosecute me for accessing a scammer’s computer illegally, I can demonstrate in every single case that the only reason I gained access is because the scammer was trying to steal money from me,” he says.
On occasion, L. succeeds in turning on the scammer’s webcam and is able to record video of the scammer and others at the call center, who can usually be heard on phones in the background. From the I.P. address of the scammer’s computer and other clues, L. frequently manages to identify the neighborhood — and, in some cases, the actual building — where the call center is.
When he encounters a scam in progress while monitoring a scammer’s computer, L. tries to both document and disrupt it, at times using his real-time access to undo the scammer’s manipulations of the victim’s computer. He tries to contact victims to warn them before they lose any money — as he did in the case of Kathleen Langer.
L.’s videos of such episodes have garnered millions of views, making him a faceless YouTube star. He says he hopes his exploits will educate the public and deter scammers. He claims he has emailed the law-enforcement authorities in India offering to share the evidence he has collected against specific call centers. Except for one instance, his inquiries have elicited only form responses, although last year, the police raided a call center that L. had identified in Gurugram, outside Delhi, after it was featured in an investigation aired by the BBC.
Now and then during our Skype conversations, L. would begin monitoring a call between a scammer and a mark and let me listen in. In some instances, I would also hear other call-center employees in the background — some of them making similar calls, others talking among themselves. The chatter evoked a busy workplace, reminding me of my late nights in a Kolkata newsroom, where I began my journalism career 25 years ago, except that these were young men and women working through the night to con people many time zones away. When scammers called me in the past, I tried cajoling them into telling me about their enterprise but never succeeded. Now, with L.’s help, I thought, I might have better luck.
I flew to India at the end of 2019 hoping to visit some of the call centers that L. had identified as homes for scams. Although he had detected many tech-support scams originating from Delhi, Hyderabad and other Indian cities, L. was convinced that Kolkata — based on the volume of activity he was noticing there — had emerged as a capital of such frauds. I knew the city well, having covered the crime beat there for an English-language daily in the mid-1990s, and so I figured that my chances of tracking down scammers would be better there than most other places in India.
I took with me, in my notebook, a couple of addresses that L. identified in the days just before my trip as possible origins for some scam calls. Because the geolocation of I.P. addresses — ascertaining the geographical coordinates associated with an internet connection — isn’t an exact science, I wasn’t certain that they would yield any scammers.
But I did have the identity of a person linked to one of these spots, a young man whose first name is Shahbaz. L. identified him by matching webcam images and several government-issued IDs found on his computer. The home address on his ID matched what L. determined, from the I.P. address, to be the site of the call center where he operated, which suggested that the call center was located where he lived or close by. That made me optimistic I would find him there. In a recording of a call Shahbaz made in November, weeks before my Kolkata visit, I heard him trying to hustle a woman in Ottawa and successfully intimidating and then fleecing an elderly man in the United States.

Although individuals like this particular scammer are the ones responsible for manipulating victims on the phone, they represent only the outward face of a multibillion-dollar criminal industry. “Call centers that run scams employ all sorts of subcontractors,” Puneet Singh, an F.B.I. agent who serves as the bureau’s legal attaché at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, told me. These include sellers of phone numbers; programmers who develop malware and pop-ups; and money mules. From the constantly evolving nature of scams — lately I’ve been receiving calls from the “law-enforcement department of the Federal Reserve System” about an outstanding arrest warrant instead of the fake Social Security Administration calls I was getting a year ago — it’s evident that the industry has its share of innovators.
The reasons this activity seems to have flourished in India are much the same as those behind the growth of the country’s legitimate information-technology-services industry after the early 2000s, when many American companies like Microsoft and Dell began outsourcing customer support to workers in India. The industry expanded rapidly as more companies in developed countries saw the same economic advantage in relocating various services there that could be performed remotely — from airline ticketing to banking. India’s large population of English speakers kept labor costs down.
Because the overwhelming majority of call centers in the country are engaged in legitimate business, the ones that aren’t can hide in plain sight. Amid the mazes of gleaming steel-and-glass high-rises in a place like Cyber City, near Delhi, or Sector V in Salt Lake, near Kolkata — two of the numerous commercial districts that have sprung up across the country to nurture I.T. businesses — it’s impossible to distinguish a call center that handles inquiries from air travelers in the United States from one that targets hundreds of Americans every day with fraudulent offers to lower their credit-card interest rates.
The police do periodically crack down on operations that appear to be illegitimate. Shortly after I got to Kolkata, the police raided five call centers in Salt Lake that officials said had been running a tech-support scam. The employees of the call centers were accused of impersonating Microsoft representatives. The police raid followed a complaint by the tech company, which in recent years has increasingly pressed Indian law enforcement to act against scammers abusing the company’s name. I learned from Murlidhar Sharma, a senior official in the city police, that his team had raided two other call centers in Kolkata a couple of months earlier in response to a similar complaint.
“Microsoft had done extensive work before coming to us,” Sharma, who is in his 40s and speaks with quiet authority, told me. The company lent its help to the police in connection with the raids, which Sharma seemed particularly grateful for. Often the police lack the resources to pursue these sorts of cases. “These people are very smart, and they know how to hide data,” Sharma said, referring to the scammers. It was in large part because of Microsoft’s help, he said, that investigators had been able to file charges in court within a month after the raid. A trial has begun but could drag on for years. The call centers have been shut down, at least for now.
Sharma pointed out that pre-emptive raids do not yield the desired results. “Our problem,” he said, “is that we can act only when there’s a complaint of cheating.” In 2017, he and his colleagues raided a call center on their own initiative, without a complaint, and arrested several people. “But then the court was like, ‘Why did the police raid these places?’” Sharma said. The judge wanted statements from victims, which the police were unable to get, despite contacting authorities in the U.S. and U.K. The case fell apart.
The slim chances of detection, and the even slimmer chances of facing prosecution, have seemed to make scamming a career option, especially among those who lack the qualifications to find legitimate employment in India’s slowing economy. Indian educational institutions churn out more than 1.5 million engineers every year, but according to one survey fewer than 20 percent are equipped to land positions related to their training, leaving a vast pool of college graduates — not to mention an even larger population of less-educated young men and women — struggling to earn a living. That would partly explain why call centers run by small groups are popping up in residential neighborhoods. “The worst thing about this crime is that it’s becoming trendy,” Aparajita Rai, a deputy commissioner in the Kolkata Police, told me. “More and more youngsters are investing the crucial years of their adolescence into this. Everybody wants fast money.”
In Kolkata, I met Aniruddha Nath, then 23, who said he spent a week working at a call center that he quickly realized was engaged in fraud. Nath has a pensive air and a shy smile that intermittently cut through his solemnness as he spoke. While finishing his undergraduate degree in engineering from a local college — he took a loan to study there — Nath got a job offer after a campus interview. The company insisted he join immediately, for a monthly salary of about $200. Nath asked me not to name the company out of fear that he would be exposing himself legally.
His jubilation turned into skepticism on his very first day, when he and other fresh recruits were told to simply memorize the contents of the company’s website, which claimed his employer was based in Australia. On a whim, he Googled the address of the Australian office listed on the site and discovered that only a parking garage was located there. He said he learned a couple of days later what he was to do: Call Indian students in Australia whose visas were about to expire and offer to place them in a job in Australia if they paid $800 to take a training course.
Image The Garden Reach area in Kolkata. Credit...Prarthna Singh for The New York Times
On his seventh day at work, Nath said, he received evidence from a student in Australia that the company’s promise to help with job placements was simply a ruse to steal $800; the training the company offered was apparently little more than a farce. “She sent me screenshots of complaints from individuals who had been defrauded,” Nath said. He stopped going in to work the next day. His parents were unhappy, and, he said, told him: “What does it matter to you what the company is doing? You’ll be getting your salary.” Nath answered, “If there’s a raid there, I’ll be charged with fraud.”
Late in the afternoon the day after I met with Nath, I drove to Garden Reach, a predominantly Muslim and largely poor section in southwest Kolkata on the banks of the Hooghly River. Home to a 137-year-old shipyard, the area includes some of the city’s noted crime hot spots and has a reputation for crime and violence. Based on my experience reporting from Garden Reach in the 1990s, I thought it was probably not wise to venture there alone late at night, even though that was most likely the best time to find scammers at work. I was looking for Shahbaz.
Parking my car in the vicinity of the address L. had given me, I walked through a narrow lane where children were playing cricket, past a pharmacy and a tiny store selling cookies and snacks. The apartment I sought was on the second floor of a building at the end of an alley, a few hundred yards from a mosque. It was locked, but a woman next door said that the building belonged to Shahbaz’s extended family and that he lived in one of the apartments with his parents.
Then I saw an elderly couple seated on the steps in the front — his parents, it turned out. The father summoned Shahbaz’s brother, a lanky, longhaired man who appeared to be in his 20s. He said Shahbaz had woken up a short while earlier and gone out on his motorbike. “I don’t know when he goes to sleep and when he wakes up,” his father said, with what sounded like exasperation.
They gave me Shahbaz’s mobile number, but when I called, I got no answer. It was getting awkward for me to wait around indefinitely without disclosing why I was there, so eventually I pulled the brother aside to talk in private. We sat down on a bench at a roadside tea stall, a quarter mile from the mosque. Between sips of tea, I told him that I was a journalist in the United States and wanted to meet his brother because I had learned he was a scammer. I hoped he would pass on my message.
I got a call from Shahbaz a few hours later. He denied that he’d ever worked at a call center. “There are a lot of young guys who are involved in the scamming business, but I’m not one of them,” he said. I persisted, but he kept brushing me off until I asked him to confirm that his birthday was a few days later in December. “Look, you are telling me my exact birth date — that makes me nervous,” he said. He wanted to know what I knew about him and how I knew it. I said I would tell him if he met with me. I volunteered to protect his identity if he answered my questions truthfully.
Two days later, we met for lunch at the Taj Bengal, one of Kolkata’s five-star hotels. I’d chosen that as the venue out of concern for my safety. When he showed up in the hotel lobby, however, I felt a little silly. Physically, Shahbaz is hardly intimidating. He is short and skinny, with a face that would seem babyish but for his thin mustache and beard, which are still a work in progress. He was in his late 20s but had brought along an older cousin for his own safety.
We found a secluded table in the hotel’s Chinese restaurant and sat down. I took out my phone and played a video that L. had posted on YouTube. (Only those that L. shared the link with knew of its existence.) The video was a recording of the call from November 2019 in which Shahbaz was trying to defraud the woman in Ottawa with a trick that scammers often use to arm-twist their victims: editing the HTML coding of the victim’s bank-account webpage to alter the balances. Because the woman was pushing back, Shahbaz zeroed out her balance to make it look as if he had the ability to drain her account. On the call, he can be heard threatening her: “You don’t want to lose all your money, right?”
I watched him shift uncomfortably in his chair. “Whose voice is that?” I asked. “It’s yours, isn’t it?”

He nodded in shocked silence. I took my phone back and suggested he drink some water. He took a few sips, gathering himself before I began questioning him. When he mumbled in response to my first couple of questions, I jokingly asked him to summon the bold, confident voice we’d just heard in the recording of his call. He gave me a wan smile.
Pointing to my voice recorder on the table, he asked, meekly, “Is this necessary?”
When his scam calls were already on YouTube, I countered, how did it matter that I was recording our conversation?
“It just makes me nervous,” he said.
Shahbaz told me his parents sent him to one of the city’s better schools but that he flunked out in eighth grade and had to move to a neighborhood school. When his father lost his job, Shahbaz found work riding around town on his bicycle to deliver medicines and other pharmaceutical supplies from a wholesaler to retail pharmacies; he earned $25 a month. Sometime around 2011 or 2012, he told me, a friend took him to a call center in Salt Lake, where he got his first job in scamming, though he didn’t realize right away that that was what he was doing. At first, he said, the job seemed like legitimate telemarketing for tech-support services. By 2015, working in his third job, at a call center in the heart of Kolkata, Shahbaz had learned how to coax victims into filling out a Western Union transfer in order to process a refund for terminated tech-support services. “They would expect a refund but instead get charged,” he told me.
Shahbaz earned a modest salary in these first few jobs — he told me that that first call center, in Salt Lake, paid him less than $100 a month. His lengthy commute every night was exhausting. In 2016 or 2017, he began working with a group of scammers in Garden Reach, earning a share of the profits. There were at least five others who worked with him, he said. All of them were local residents, some more experienced than others. One associate at the call center was his wife’s brother.
He was cagey about naming the others or describing the organization’s structure, but it was evident that he wasn’t in charge. He told me that a supervisor had taught him how to intimidate victims by editing their bank balances. “We started doing that about a year ago,” he said, adding that their group was somewhat behind the curve when it came to adopting the latest tricks of the trade. When those on the cutting edge of the business develop something new, he said, the idea gradually spreads to other scammers.
It was hard to ascertain how much this group was stealing from victims every day, but Shahbaz confessed that he was able to defraud one or two people every night, extracting anywhere from $200 to $300 per victim. He was paid about a quarter of the stolen amount. He told me that he and his associates would ask victims to drive to a store and buy gift cards, while staying on the phone for the entire duration. Sometimes, he said, all that effort was ruined if suspicious store clerks declined to sell gift cards to the victim. “It’s becoming tough these days, because customers aren’t as gullible as they used to be,” he told me. I could see from his point of view why scammers, like practitioners in any field, felt pressure to come up with new methods and scams in response to increasing public awareness of their schemes.
The more we spoke, the more I recognized that Shahbaz was a small figure in this gigantic criminal ecosystem that constitutes the phone-scam industry, the equivalent of a pickpocket on a Kolkata bus who is unlucky enough to get caught in the act. He had never thought of running his own call center, he told me, because that required knowing people who could provide leads — names and numbers of targets to call — as well as others who could help move stolen money through illicit channels. “I don’t have such contacts,” he said. There were many in Kolkata, according to Shahbaz, who ran operations significantly bigger than the one he was a part of. “I know of people who had nothing earlier but are now very rich,” he said. Shahbaz implied that his own ill-gotten earnings were paltry in comparison. He hadn’t bought a car or a house, but he admitted that he had been able to afford to go on overseas vacations with friends. On Facebook, I saw a photo of him posing in front of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and other pictures from a visit to Thailand.
I asked if he ever felt guilty. He didn’t answer directly but said there had been times when he had let victims go after learning that they were struggling to pay bills or needed the money for medical expenses. But for most victims, his rationale seemed to be that they could afford to part with the few hundred dollars he was stealing.
Shahbaz was a reluctant interviewee, giving me brief, guarded answers that were less than candid or directly contradicted evidence that L. had collected. He was vague about the highest amount he’d ever stolen from a victim, at one point saying $800, then later admitting to $1,500. I found it hard to trust either figure, because on one of his November calls I heard him bullying someone to pay him $5,000. He told me that my visit to his house had left him shaken, causing him to realize how wrong he was to be defrauding people. His parents and his wife were worried about him. And so, he had quit scamming, he told me.
“What did you do last night?” I asked him.
“I went to sleep,” he said.
I knew he was not telling the truth about his claim to have stopped scamming, however. Two days earlier, hours after our phone conversation following my visit to Garden Reach, Shahbaz had been at it again. It was on that night, in fact, that he tried to swindle Kathleen Langer in Crossville, Tenn. Before I came to see him for lunch, I had already heard a recording of that call, which L. shared with me.
When I mentioned that to him, he looked at me pleadingly, in visible agony, as if I’d poked at a wound. It was clear to me that he was only going to admit to wrongdoing that I already had evidence of.
L. told me that the remote access he had to Shahbaz’s computer went cold after I met with him on Dec. 14, 2019. But it buzzed back to life about 10 weeks later. The I.P. address was the same as before, which suggested that it was operating in the same location I visited. L. set up a livestream on YouTube so I could see what L. was observing. The microphone was on, and L. and I could clearly hear people making scam calls in the background. The computer itself didn’t seem to be engaged in anything nefarious while we were eavesdropping on it, but L. could see that Shahbaz’s phone was connected to it. It appeared that Shahbaz had turned the computer on to download music. I couldn’t say for certain, but it seemed that he was taking a moment to chill in the middle of another long night at work.

Use Channel Points to Control OBS (Infinite Channel Point ideas)

Have you been wondering how to use Chanel Points to Control OBS. It’s actually fairly simple and FREE all done by using Touch Portal to control OBS. This simple OBS Tutorial will show you how to control your stream and give you an infinite amount of Channel Point ideas!
Note: This is a tutorial I also did as video on youtube, I will provide a link to that video, a free anime zoom overlay file, and a free Mortal Kombat Toasty overlay file so you can follow along precisely.

DISCLAIMER: this method I am showing is for Twitch AND you must be an affiliate to have channel points... However you can use this same method for controlling OBS with YouTube and Twitch if you aren't an affiliate by using custom chat commands. If that's something you want to learn let me know below and I’ll try to create a tutorial on that.
IN A NUTSHELL: you are using touch portal to toggle on a media source and toggle it off again based on a Twitch Event trigger (channel point redemption)
First you’ll need to download and install Touch Portal AND OBS websocket. Once installed link twitch and OBS into touch portal, this can be tricky and may require a restart of the app or pc sometimes, or at least for me it did.
TWITCH + OBS: Log on to twitch to create your custom channel point and make sure you name it properly and remember or keep note of its EXACT Spelling, than in OBS, create a new scene called zzTRIGGERS, add media source in here, follow these steps in OBS for media setup: a) SAVE file in a file that you will not change so location isnt broken. b) Open file, click loop for now. c) check Restart playback d) check “use hardware…” e) Click ok. f) get positioning in desired location, i like bottom left. g) right click into media properties h) Uncheck loop. i) Click ok j) Click hide OR EYE OFF
TOUCH PORTAL: On touch portal Click on new blank button, change color, and name and uncheck transparent back so you can see colors. 1) click “ON EVENT” 2) scroll left are to Twitch, then click on “Event On Channel Channel Point Redeemed”. 3) type in EXACT channel point name, caps and lowercase matter. 4) go to left area, add LOGIC, “Action Wait for time”, make it 3 seconds 5) go to left area, select OBS Action Source Visibility, toggle, choose scene, choose media. 6) go to left area, add LOGIC, “Action Wait for time”, make it XX seconds (type in the amount of second to wait to turn of…. If media is 15 seconds wait 16 second, if 60 seconds wait 61 seconde, etc). 7) go to left area, select OBS Action Source Visibility, HIDE, choose scene, choose media. 8) click save
BAM THATS IT
BONUS: you know how to use OBS, clearly… so go on YouTube and search green screen meme or anything, and record it in OBS, open up in Davinci Resolve (also a free software) trim the video, export and save and in 15 minutes you saved 15% or more by switching to geico…. Jk in 15 minutes you just created a new channel point event for your viewers to redeem!
DOUBLE BONUS: BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE: … and yes there is more Join my Discord Server and get those free resources I mentioned in the intro…. (Anime Zoom and Mortal Kombat Toasty Files) links below!!
