pool fixtures week 30 - win

In May of 1980, 36-year-old Christina Frazier fought for her life when she was violently attacked in her Anderson, Indiana apartment. After being stabbed, choked, and sexually assaulted, her killer shattered her skull. 40 years later, her case remains unsolved.

The morning of May 23rd, 1980 started like any other for 36-year-old Christina Frazier. Shortly before 7 a.m., she said goodbye to her husband, Charles, who was heading to his job at the State Highway Department. Charles and Christina had only been married for about three weeks and the Anderson, Indiana couple were just getting settled into their new life together.
Around 4:30 p.m., Charles returned home after work to discover the back door of the couples apartment, had been kicked open. As he entered the small upstairs apartment, Charles noticed large amounts of blood splattered on the walls and floors leading into the bedroom. There, he found Christina lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
It was determined that Christina’s murder had been a case of “overkill.”
Christina was stabbed multiple times. An autopsy revealed she had been stabbed more than six times in the neck, and had numerous slice wounds across her back, hands, and arms.
She was found dressed in her bathrobe. Christina’s killer had tried to gag and strangle her multiple times using the robes belt, however when this failed and Christina fought back, her killer attempted to use a T-shirt, then an electrical cord, both of which were found tied around Christina’s neck as well.
As Christina continued to fight for her life, it is believed she attempted to take cover in her bathroom. There, her killer attacked her once again, beating Christina in the head and face. The fatal blow came when Christina’s killer slammed her head against one of the bathroom fixtures, either the toilet or the bathtub, shattering her skull. It was also determined that Christina had been sexually assaulted.
Due to the lack of contents in her stomach, and the fact that she was still dressed in her bathrobe, it is estimated that Christina was killed shortly after Charles had left for work, around 7 a.m..
An investigation of the apartment, located at 923 1/2 Nichol Avenue, revealed that aside from kicking in the front door, Christina’s killer had also cut her phone’s cord. The apartment was in disarray from the struggle that had occurred, however nothing was missing, including cash in Christina’s purse.
Charles was immediately ruled out as suspect after police confirmed that he had been at work from 7 am to 4 pm that day, and had not left.
When questioned, the downstairs neighbors told investigators that they had heard loud noises coming from the apartment above, however they did not investigate the noises further. After canvassing the neighborhood and coming up empty handed, police turned to Christina’s fellow employees at the local tavern where she worked nights as a waitress. Unfortunately, they turned up no new leads there either.
Death Certificate/Clippings
Find A Grave: Christina Frazier
I wanted to include, that although it is never mentioned in the newspaper articles, this murder has quite a few similarities to the case I posted yesterday about Janet Shirar, the teacher who was savagely murdered in nearby Kokomo, Indiana.
Both murders happened on Memorial Day weekend, within 24 hours one another. Both murders were considered “overkill” by investigators. Both victims were stabbed. Robbery doesn’t appear to have been a motive in either case. Kokomo is pretty close to Anderson, a little over an hour away.
I’m not saying the two are related, just wanted to point out the similarities between them.

Max Haygarth (Brentford B)

Max completed a permanent move to Brentford B on a contract until June 2022 with an option of a further year. I wish him all the best for the future!
Neil MacFarlane (Brentford B Head Coach): “We’re delighted that Max will be signing with us permanently. He has come in and made a real impression on the group, with his attitude and his quality on a daily basis. Max was highly thought of at Manchester United and he has had a fantastic football education having come through the ranks there.
Since he has come to us it’s been our job to try and improve him and, hopefully, he can get to the levels where he can compete to train and then play for the First Team, as we saw when he made his debut against Nottingham Forest.
It’s been a quick rise, but it comes down to the fact that he’s really bought into what we are as a B Team and who we are as a Football Club. He has really good quality at the top end of the pitch, and of course, there is still a long way to go in terms of his development, but he’s already made steps which he can be really proud of. There’s much more to come from him and he has the potential to really kick on in his career.”

Matej Kovar (Swindon Town)

Matej has been recalled by Manchester United.
Matej Kovar on his Instagram: "My time came earlier than I thought. And personally I think this is best way for both sides. I know I didn't show the quality what I'm capable of but i'll take it as a big lesson from which i'll learn. Now is time for my to put my head down and work hard to make sure i'll be ready for next challenge. Thank you very much Swindon and wish you all the best for rest of the season."

Dylan Levitt (Charlton Athletic)

Dylan has been recalled by Manchester United.
Lee Bowyer (Charlton Athletic manager): “Dylan is a professional lad and a very talented footballer. I'd like to thank Nicky Butt and Manchester United for allowing us to bring in Dylan on loan. He worked hard during his time here and we wish him the best for the future."
Dylan Levitt on his Twitter: "I’d like to thank the club for the opportunity and wish the club all the best for the rest of the season"
Jonathan Shrager: "Both QPR and Portsmouth like Levitt, but in terms of going out on loan again for the second half of the season, Dylan will assess after a couple of weeks back at #MUFC, and a couple of U23 games. He is very keen to go to the Euros with Wales in the summer, so it is a big decision"

Ethan Laird (MK Dons)

Ethan got loaned to MK Dons until the end of the season. Came on from the bench to make his debut and played 63 minutes in 1:1 (3:4 after penalties) loss against Burnley in FA Cup.

Ethan Laird: “I'm buzzing to get started, the manager has shown a lot of faith in me and what I can do for the team, and that’s all I could ask for - it’s now up to me show why he was right to choose me. I need to work my way into the team and get to know the lads, but I want to make as much of an impact as I can while I’m here. That’s something I’ll always hold myself too - how can I affect my teammates and the Club in a positive way. This is the perfect place for me to continue developing, with the way the team play. They are aggressive, they like to get in behind and they leave it all out on the pitch and that's my idea of football. I believe in the manager’s idea of the way we play and I want to make sure that I can help make that happen. I know we can achieve good things if we stick to the manager's beliefs and implement them on the pitch. In terms of who I am - I'm quick, I like to dribble with the ball and I'm always looking to get in behind and put in crosses. I have bundles of energy and I'll be looking to put that to good use!"
Russell Martin (MK Dons manager): "Ethan is someone with real quality and we’re really pleased to be able to bring him in. He’s chosen to come here over a number of options, which is brilliant for us. He’s very explosive but with lots of quality on the ball and he can play in a couple of positions in defence or further forward, which gives us some more versatility. He’s really highly thought of at Man United and we are very grateful to them for allowing us the opportunity to work with him. We’re looking forward to that opportunity and hopefully, he’ll come in and add something to the group.”
Toby Lock (MK Citizen reporter) after game vs Burnley: "7.5/10. A great start to life at MK Dons with an energetic and promising performance off the bench."
Russell Martin (MK Dons manager) after game vs Burnley: "Yeah, [he brings] power, athleticism. We've done obviously a very little work with him, because he's only been here for a day, he came here yesterday. He's brought in a real enthusiasm, real energy as a character - which I really, really like. You could see today what he's gonna bring us, especially when we are gonna get him up to the speed. He's not played for a good few weeks, so I have to be patient with him. He's gonna really, really add to the group, so I'm really pleased with that signing. And you know, the competition. He adds the competition, because I thought Regan Poole was really, really excellent tonight. So yeah, it's really, really good for us, a good addition."

Fans' opinion:
“He's one of those rare players who always gives the impression that he can do something decisive at any moment. It's a pity that our midfield is already crowded with strong and hardly expendable players like SMS and LA. But he should be playing more. Much more than what little he is playing.” ~Mocambo on Lazio.net forum
“According to me he is the perfect alternative to create a game in case Luis Alberto is absent. He is wasted up front and doesn't have the movements of a forward (but not a second forward either).” ~Inzaghino87 on Lazio.net forum
“He's a fantastic player, I'm very fond of him, I think he's going to be very good over time, an important player. I like the way he plays, he's fast, technically impressive and knows how to do everything on the pitch, I'd really like to keep him at all costs.” ~marco87 on Lazio.net forum
“Quality of a proper player. In the last few minutes he was dribbling with ease. We need more Pereira. One of those born with the ball at his feet.” ~FedericoPrati on Lazio.net forum
“This time with 10 minutes more than usual he made a shot, gave a crazy ball to Immobile, and helped the team by keeping the ball. Good performance.” ~simcar on Lazio.net forum

“He certainly has a good foot, but nothing else. otherwise he's a very average full-back. we can find at least 10 better ones in italy” ~Posterdati on AC Milan Forum
“#Dalot 5/10 replaces the injured Tonali and gets himself cautioned after a few minutes. Tactically he takes Calabria's place and the hint of lack of confidence is visible” ~@RedellePagelle on Twitter

Florian Kohfeldt (Werder Bremen manager) before game vs Bayer Leverkusen: "Tahith Chong has earned a start based on his strong performances in training and in games. We're going to need his speed today."
Björn Knips (Deich Stube writer after game vs Bayer Leverkusen): "That was not Bundesliga level. Lost almost every ball, bounced off the opponents and ruined the few good sequences with wrong decisions. At least the commitment was right."
Fans' opinion:
“some of the situations he messes up wouldn't have happened at all without his speed... I think he just lacks practice.” ~Gertrud Schlorke on Worum.org
“Very weak performance. I was expecting a substitution at half-time.” ~Bayernschreck on Worum.org
“I wouldn't fundamentally condemn the transfer, but a loan for a year without a buy-out is of course not ideal for either side. If he were a young player in his own right, I would have a good imagination, but I would never want to pay a transfer fee for him at the moment.” ~Bibo on Worum.org
“He is simply not strong enough to fight and his passing game is insufficient. At the moment, he''s not good enough at the back and up front.” ~Servus on Worum.org
“If he doesn't improve significantly, he won't have much fun in Machester.” ~Christian on Worum.org

Basement Home Pub Build

My wife and I decided to finally get around to building our long discussed home bar since we can't go out during the pandemic lock downs.
Link to the album https://imgur.com/gallery/NlgnF8O
We saw this room when we first did the home tour before buying it and knew we needed to turn it into a modern British style pub. We used to live in the UK for 3 years and pub culture is one of the things we missed the most, other than easy travel. With the lock downs here we figured now was as good of a time to tackle this project as ever. The pub is named to evoke the style of British pubs and is named after an animal native to my wife's home of Guam and the state bird of PA, where I am from.
We started by ripping all the carpet up and lay click together LVP before building the bar itself, as has been pointed out to me in the DIY thread I made, I probably screwed up by building the bar structure over the LVP but time will tell. This project was done entirely by myself with the exception of hooking up the sink, I've never done plumbing so a friend came over to help with that (payment made in 2 for 5 whopper lunch and beer). We started laying the floor at the end of October, and the framing and rough built counters were done by Thanksgiving. The main bar was finished just in time for NYE although there are some additions and changes made after that, mainly minor details like the 2nd magnet holder and the shelf on the fireplace. Finally the pool table was acquired through FB market place the last week of January and at that point I consider it finished. I'm sure there will be minor changes and decorations added but all major components are in place and done.
The single most expensive item was the flooring where we spent about $1500 on the LVP and T-moulding. Although we bought extra to floor two other smaller areas of the basement, the entryway on the other side of the room and my office in the basement. When everything was done we have 11 boards of LVP leftover.
Lumber and plywood was about $350 for both the bar frame and the various shelves and magnet holders.
Walnut bar top was $225 for 7.5' of kiln dried 1.5" thick slab.
Various plumbing supplies were a total of $108
All the black Iron Pipe used for the foot rail, bar supports, magnet holders, and paper towel holder came to about $140
Pool table was a steal at $400 for 8' slate
The rest of the items and links are below
Bar Stools we got them on sale for $70 each total of $280
Beer Fridge was on sale for $499
Fireplace Shelf Bracket $26
Bar Shelf Brackets $50
Hanging glass holder $18
Ice Maker $138
Led Strip Lights for liquor shelf and under bar $30
Bar Light fixture $80
Bar Sink $80
Faucet $107
Total was about $4,000 although I'm sure there are a few things I forgot to take into account.
We've used it a few times with a couple of our friends that we trust through covid and it has turned into quite the popular hangout spot. We're really looking forward to being able to have lots more friends over and do plenty of drinking here.

Sanity check: have I (31F) become the abuser in my marriage

Ok this is likely going to be a long post so please bare with me but I so feel context is important... Tldr at the bottom.
I (31F) have been married to my husband (33M) for 5.5 years. We met February 2013, he moved into the house I owned three months later. We sold my house and bought one together using the funds from the sale of my house in June 2014, he proposed in July 2014 and we were married in June 2015. When we were living in my house everything was literally amazing, we did everything together and had so much fun, we went out to dinner randomly and did projects and classes. We never fought.
Around the time we got engaged (not sure if it was after getting the house or after the proposal) things started to change. He never seemed to want to spend time together and everything single thing was a fight down to picking out a light fixture. I would give him several options I liked and he hated them all but never came up with anything himself when I asked what he did want. This became the general pattern for everything. He hated and complained about what I liked or wanted but never gave me any options in return (which I would have been more than happy to seriously consider). He started hating my hobbies like antiques and diy stuff which he seemed to like before. As for the wedding he argued over everything and hated spending any money, regardless of the fact that I literally scoured hours to find the cheapest options and he had no options to offer. He started complaining every time I spent money on anything, even if was my own money. I started becoming concerned about this and second guessing getting married but attributed it to wedding/new home stress and figured things would eventually go back to normal.
For our wedding I also went on a diet and dropped from 125 lbs (size 6) to 90lbs. He would praise me when the scale went down and react negatively with any increase. He encouraged me to eat less and less and would tell me how sexy I was as I lost weight. I developed an eating disorder and by the time of the wedding I would get mad at myself for eating an apple with peanut butter as the only thing I ate in a day. After the wedding when we got our pictures back I realized how skinny and sickly I looked (size zero pants were becoming too baggy on me). I remember eating two pints of Ben and jerry's in about two weeks because I saw their ad and hadn't had any in about a year. I hid the cartons from him because I was afraid of how he would react. Well he found them and got pissed and started yelling about how I was just going to get fat now that I was married because that's what women do. I wound up gaining a bit over time and evening out around 100lbs.
When we had been married a bit I asked him about children. I have fertility issues and my time was running out of I wanted to have kids plus being adopted I knew how long that process takes if it turned out we couldn't. I honestly thought it would take at least a year before I would get pregnant. Early in dating after a surgery on my ovaries I had told him children were important to me and if he was not on board with my timeline that was fine but because of my medical issues I wanted to have two children relatively soon so don't waste my time. He said he was absolutely on board and wanted to have two children and have had kids by the time he was 30. when I brought it up though after getting married he kept pushing it off. Finally he agreed and at about 8 months after the wedding we started trying. I miraculously got pregnant with my daughter after two months and had her 6 months before his 30th birthday. She also unfortunately was diagnosed with a severe heart defect that landed her in and out of the hospital and across the country for treatment for the first 6 months of her life. He became resentful that we had her 6 months earlier than he wanted and he hated having to do anything for her. He stated that he hates the baby stage and her medical issues compounded everything.
When my daughter was born is when things started getting really bad for us. He came to see her in the NICU for a few hours every weekend and would spend most of the time on his phone. I was rooming in with her so I was caring for her around the clock. Once we came home he took two weeks of paternity leave even though he could have taken more and promised to take more (but it would be unpaid so he didn't want to even though we had plenty of savings and it was completely financially doable). When he was on leave he spent the entire time doing contract work and I had to beg him for help. I rarely got to eat or shower and getting him to take her for those was like pulling teeth. She was colicky and only wanted to be held and was on oxygen so it was a very rough time. He refused to wake up at night to help me even though I had to pump and bottle feed her because we needed to fortify her milk. He would get so upset when I asked for help that I finally gave up and just did it all myself. I was getting maybe a few hours of sleep a night. We fought constantly about it with me begging and clawing for more help. I was never able to get him to take our daughter for even an hour at a time.
When it got closer to her surgery date we relocated to California for a few months so we could be prepared if she went downhill fast. Those two months were absolutely hell for me. I had no help. I had to shower with her and work remotely while holding her. I asked him for a bit of time every day to shower and eat and it was always a fight so I figured it out. He complained constantly about my weight (I was very stressed and stayed at about 130-135lbs) and what I ate. I remember him getting so mad about me eating a peanut butter sandwich (I didn't have anything else to eat because I needed to go shopping and the Ronald McDonald house supplied a few things for free including peanut butter - by the way they are AMAZING 🙌) that he started yelling about me being overweight and sending me nasty texts.
He was stressed, we both were but his behavior was completely abusive and terrible. I hated my life. After the peanut butter incident I called my parents and they helped me begin to find a lawyer for divorce. My decision was finalized after my daughter's surgery when she was inpatient and not gaining weight well and going through withdrawal from the medications she was on. The nurse told me to make sure I eat a lot of calories so we could increase her weight because otherwise she wouldn't be able to leave the hospital for a while. I took her suggestion to heart and had three large meals daily. My husband saw one of my meals (bacon, eggs, oatmeal, peanut butter toast, sausage and fruit I think) and absolutely flipped. He just walked out of the room and started angrily texting me about how I shouldn't eat three meals a day or I would gain weight etc etc.
When we got home I talked with the lawyer in secret to discuss my options. I got everything together and left with my daughter to my parents house after Christmas and told him I wanted a divorce. He begged and pleaded but I remained firm. He wound up going to therapy, going to abuse counciling, getting on meds, etc. It seemed like he really was trying to change and he did. I wound up apprehensively moving back in. He asked me to renew our vows and life continued. Things were never really the same with us though. I had become calloused towards him and things just felt different.
He wound up helping more with my daughter and things started looking promising. We were becoming a happy family and things were looking up. He was becoming a much better father to our daughter and it was nice to see. Unfortunately I was running out of time reproductively and we had a deadline for conception to time ages with my daughters next heart surgery so I brought up having a second child. I had always wanted at least two children. I told him though that this time I wanted him on board and I did not want him to agree unless he really was going to be a partner. He agreed, perhaps a little reluctantly but I stressed over and over that I didn't want him to agree unless he was ready. We began trying for another child and 13 months, a miscarriage, three months of fertility treatment and the loss of my son's twin, we finally conceived and carried our next miracle, my son.
As soon as I got pregnant and started showing my husband's old habits of negativity returned. He would comment about my size and started becoming controlling again with food and money. He started having me tell him every single purchase so he could "budget" and severely restricted my spending, even on food and we were making plenty. He wanted to put in a pool and a pool house/office that he could work and sleep in before my son was born. The pool house cost about $45k and it is all his along with his two $3500 tvs, robotic desk, sound system etc. He spends most of the day and the night out there.
I did everything I could to reduce costs so we could afford the pool house but he would get mad at me spending $100 on food or $100 on clothes for the kids when they needed warmer or larger clothes (nothing crazy, talking walmart $3 pants and shirts etc). After everything was paid for he agreed to give me a set allowance a month to do with what I want to make up for the fact that he just spent nearly 50k on himself. That amount has since been cut in half and he now takes three times as much extra towards his car payment. Even still when I do but anything he always criticizes it and complains and fights about it, especially when it is something that I'm doing to help someone else out like my half brother or a kids toy drive. I have started hiding purchases which I know isn't really ok but I just couldn't take the fights and negativity anymore over everything I bought.
With the pandemic I also fought and fought for more time to work (was an hour a day of his help and now I get approximately 4.5 hours on week days and 3 on weekends). I feel like I'm on him and complaining ALL THE TIME about this. I also fight with him about how he spends his time with the kids since his first go to is to sit them in front of the TV while he does chores. I know I should just let him do his own thing with the kids but he has them for so little time I want him to actually spend time with them and I don't really want them on screens all the time. I'm also grateful he does do the chores but I have the kids alone almost 20 hours a day so I feel like they could be done another time. Don't get me wrong I appreciate the help I do get from him and I absolutely couldn't do it alone.
I feel like I complain and fight with him non stop about things that I think are valid concerns but like tonight we fought because he found out about a purchase I made without consulting him and I tried explaining why I did it and because I'm tired of fighting for everything I want and needing his "permission". Then he says things like "so what do you want me to do because it sounds like I'm a complete failure". Maybe I complain too much. There is still a lot of resentment and hurt and lack of trust in my end and he has proven me correct many times but I need a sanity check that I'm not turning into the very abuser that I fought so hard against. For reference here are some of my other top complaints:
However I won't pretend to be perfect. I'm concerned because of the following things I do:
Am I turning into the very thing I hate? I will take and judgement or advice to heart. I need this sanity check and if it is true then I will make changes because I definitely don't want to be like that.
TL;DR: I'm concerned that I am becoming abusive towards my husband as a response to his negative actions.

Simone Inzaghi (Lazio manager after game vs Fiorentina): "Andreas Pereira would have liked to make his contribution against Fiorentina, but I'm very satisfied with him. The Brazilian is integrating, even if it is difficult to find space. Andreas is still sending out very good signals."

“I wouldn't say Dalot was poor. He didn't make any mistakes and actually dynamized the right flank” ~Omfier on /ACMilan
“Dalot is a good passer, I'd like to try him as emergency mid rather than Calabria.” ~Samaldinho on Forum AC Milan-Online

Automation Beam Championship - Shed Supercars

So what is the automation beam championship? It is a weekly challenge where you get to build, design and drive your own autoamation creations in beamng, trying to build the best car possible! Here is the first round of the new season. To join, here is our discord server link: https://discord.gg/QVq6Jbe

Early 00’s Shed Supercars
Deadline for .car file and pictures is this Sunday 10pm UTC.
Deadline for recorded laps is this Monday 10pm UTC.

Championship Rules

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l3M_cynLT1i0G2XTl81OvZgKzv1dF9Mv-PlAGaxM7UA/edit?usp=sharing
Some new rules here, please read this over.

Background to the Round

Imagine this: you’re in England (well you could be elsewhere but England is objectively the best place for crazy shed supercars that do not work) in 2001 and your name is Kent or Hugh or whatever. You want your small sports car manufacturing team of five people (three of which are called Gary) to make a supercar. But, the thing is, you’ve only got 30 grand, and half a university degree between the five of you. But, Gary 2 has once made a fibreglass swimming pool in his neighbours garden, so he knows his way around some rollers and a bit of glue. So, you grab a bunch of cool and hip performance parts from other major manufacturers (without telling them of course) and shove them between a few pipes, and there you go! Your shed supercar is done. No need for any fancy engineering like the big supercar makers. ABS? TC? Monocoque chassis? What are those weird things? Now, let’s hope it works and does not catch fire, or fall apart…. Or kill you.

Aesthetics Brief

For every round we want you to vote for the cars between 1 - 10. Please take into account the creativity of the build. In this way we can assure that people don’t always vote for the boring but good looking cars, but creativity is also considered for the builds.
For example, you could ask yourself these questions:
  1. Does it fit the round? I.e. does the car fit the brief below?
  2. Is it a quality build? Is the level of detailing and fixture work impressive?
  3. Do I like how it looks? This final question is where personal taste comes in
For this round we’re looking for a simple formula: cool looks (make sure it does not look too high-end! We’re working with 30k here), cool sound and some performance.
Dodge Viper Noble M15 TVR Sagaris Corvette C5

Scoring for the Round

  1. Fastest recorded beamng time trial lap time on West Coast USA Long Race Circuit 1 by the team’s driver(s)
  2. Automation scores calculation
  1. The aesthetics vote - each team should submit 2 pictures of their car for aesthetics voting

Board Meeting 03/19/2019 (Special Budget Meeting)

Supplements

Summary

Some highlights from the meeting are: The April Board meeting has been rescheduled. Instead of being held on Tuesday, April 2nd, it will be held on Monday, April 8th. 2019-2020 Calendar Modifications:
The Budget Draft presented at the meeting was not posted online so I couldn't see the details. There was a high level overview discussion of the line items, which you can read further in the notes. Budget Discussion Highlights:

Detailed Notes

    2. Discussion: None
    3. VOTE: Vote on the motion as amended. The ayes have it and the motion carries.
II. Board / Administrative Working Session
  1. Propose to change the meeting from Tuesday, April 2nd to Monday, April 8th. Leah made a motion to change the meeting and Cary seconded it. Vote on the motion passed.
III. General Working Session
  1. 2019/2020 Master School Calendar
    1. Teachers preferred the one day later than the district start of school. We will have more time for teacher inservice. Katie said that she thought the Middle School Back to School night was supposed to be pushed to the next week, but that is not reflected on the calendar. Katie suggests moving the New Middle Schoolers day to the way it usually is, being the day before school starts. Cary asks how they received feedback from the teachers. Wayne says that the principals met with the team leads and got feedback that way. Katie says that the elementary school wants to go to quarters instead of trimesters, so we’re going to do that now. It will have more continuity with the conferences and more continuity with the middle school. Most elementaries in the school district on the trimester, but most schools aren’t K-8. There will be an additional grading period for teachers, but it doesn’t have that big of an impact. Conferences in the spring will be pushed out a bit to just before Spring Break. Kumar asks Wayne if, based on his experience, parents will be ok with this. Wayne says yes and explains that he has talked to some parents about it and they generally want to do what is best for teachers and kids. Leah moves to approve the calendar and Cary seconds the motion. It passes.
  2. 2019/2020 Budget
    1. The budget draft was not posted online and I cannot read the screen.
    2. Linda Arnold will be done working (retiring) in June for all of her schools. Her youngest is graduating high school. Kim McCain is working for Abstract Insights. Linda reviewed Kim’s experience and explains that Kim will be the new Linda. They are working on transitioning work over now. Kim will attend the finance committee meeting tomorrow.
    3. Wayne says that the Budget Draft they’re showing on the screen is super high level. Wayne explains that the vote will occur on April 8th and that this is just for discussion. If the Board wants clarity on anything, Wayne can bring that on April 8th.
    4. Currently, we are almost 15 students up from this year in terms of enrollment. We know that we have loss over the summer, but he is being conservative for us not to have a hit. Tuition (Kindergarten) - He knows there are discussions where Gov. Polis wants to fund full day kindergarten. We would not charge our parents for full day kindergarten in that case. We would gain a few hundred dollars potentially if that happens, which would be a bonus.
    5. Dragon Flight tuition is awesome. We’re bumping that up a bit to be more consistent. It averages right around $25,000/month (school year months - 10 months)
    6. We get around $30,000 in interest income for the amount in our account.
    7. We left activity fees at 85%, although it has been decreasing every year. We are going to get more proactive on finding ways for that to come back in, even if it’s from Wayne himself.
    8. Pingree for 5th grade trip is consistent.
    9. Summer camp - There is a slight dip here because we are shortening the summer camp. We can’t clean until summer camp is over.
    10. Sports and Athletics - we’ve captured everything we can for kids to do track, etc.
    11. Chromebook fees
    12. We should see an increase in mill levy. These are based on our enrollment in 2008. If our enrollment takes a hit, we’re ok.
    13. PTO came in with $45,000 this year. Wayne and Jolene had their monthly meeting today. $20,000 hasn’t been asked for from staff for this year, so they’re going to roll it over to next year, so that number will increase to $65,000. They could adjust that based on the Gala. Cary asks if something else could be done with that money? Wayne mentions that they’d talk about that in the expenses. Kumar asks if the number could be increased. Discussion. The amount listed is the amount the PTO promised to us.
    14. Capital Construction is funding that the state gives to charter schools to help for facilities, but it is minimal.
    15. Net increase to revenue around $358,000.
    16. Expenses - Targeting 90% - 95% of SVVSD. They accounted for 93% of the district. Peak to Peak is only at 90%. They added in a Behavior Interventionist position, which he will talk about in a minute. Wayne is passing out a historical salary data sheet so the Board can see what they have spent in salaries and see the change over the years. He mentions a bonus and stipends for when people do amazing work. He says he has been doing that for years, so there are people recognized every year. He is explaining on the numbers on that sheet correspond to the numbers on the budget draft. The actual change in budget is $251,000 from last year to this year. Bob asks what it would be if we went to 95%. Wayne says about another $70-some thousand.
    17. Wayne explains that there is a difference between counselors and Behavior Interventionists. We need someone who really knows how to talk with teachers to build the classroom environment. Katie explains that we really need this help at school because others are being pulled from their tasks that they need to do. It would be a full time job that would pay around $45,000 - $50,000. Katie says that kids are coming in and are not able to manage their emotions. We don’t have anyone on staff that necessarily has that qualification. We need someone on the staff to help the students and help train us on what we need to do and how we can handle this. Wayne says that only the Tier 3 students are getting that special ed service, but other kids are not being served and are outside of what we do. Katie says that trauma informed teaching is really big right now and we need to address it when the kids are young to avoid consequences when they are older. Adams and Douglas Counties are hiring a lot of these types of positions for their school districts. Katie explains that with technological devices, kids are coming in with less social and emotional skills, and we need to deal with that.
    18. Increasing Paid Time Off Hours. Wayne says this will help accommodate substitute teachers time.
    19. Increase in PERA and Health Insurance
    20. Wayne is starting to skim through due to the lack of time.
    21. Wayne says we are sending out a bid for a new custodial contract because we have not been happy with the custodial service.
    22. Liability Insurance, which includes chromebook insurance, our liability and property insurance is going up 52% (!!!) due to all of the natural disasters and the like. In 2017, the pool paid out more claims than the previous four years combined so they depleted their reserves and this is them passing that on to us. Wayne has talked with others to get quotes from new providers and asked about moving around coverages and deductibles. He is working to get that down. Stuart asks if that is expected to go down. Wayne mentions how the hail storms are just decimating properties.
    23. Talk about how some of these categories are combined (for example, the way Dragon Flight field trips are categorized with other things) and Kumar asks if we should break these out. Wayne said the categories are chosen by the CDE so we can’t change those.
    24. The rest of the district services are just slight changes. There may be an increase in Tech because district technology is getting new costs as well.
    25. Everything else is fairly flat.
    26. Furniture and fixtures has a big drop because of all that we did this year.
    27. Stuart asks if there are any large expenses coming up to consider. Carpet will need to be replaced, which we’ll start looking at toward the end of this year. Wayne mentions that there is no space for someone like a Behavioral Interventionists, so we may carve out some space from the art room since there are no longer big installations. However, there would be no HVAC or sprinklers so we would have to spend the money to make accommodations for that. Estimates on that are coming in around $40,000 because of the mechanical aspects of that. Kumar asks about the lawn. Wayne says we’re still dealing with that and we’ll have to see.
    28. We need to submit a budget to the district by April 15th. The budget the Board has to approve isn’t until May. Until we get true PPR, we won’t truly know these numbers. In June, we’ll set PPR, but enrollment won’t be set until October. Leah mentions that the budget is typically amended at the beginning of the next school year. Linda encourages questions now though, if there are any, so that they can be answered now. Wayne wants everyone to know we’re on track for the 90% - 95% to match SVVSD.

What interior designers should not do?

The right direction a top 8 design mistakes early on and in a series format room with the bathroom everything from the kitchen to the bedroom to the living room dining room and home office that's all i have planned for now. If there's any room that i didn't mention and you wanted to see common design mistakes for make sure you drop in the comments section below. so let's get started on kitchens rooms to design because it's the room in your home that gets the most use. it's the heart of the home and for good reason it's a place that you come to gather and socialize. it's the place that you come to cook your heart out for your friends and loved ones designing your dream kitchen. can be one of the most rewarding tasks that you undertake in a home remodel. but since the kitchen is filled with endless design decisions that the task can also be really daunting to those who are unprepared in order to save time money stress and to get the most out of your dream kitchen. try to avoid making these costly mistakes is going to be a doozy it's very comprehensive and i pretty much cover everything i could think of when i'm designing kitchens for my own clients.
So grab some water steep some tea pour yourse lf a glass of wine and let's get to it i'll be breaking into four parts we'll start with the function and space planning then move on to logistics and choosing your appliances. following with storage and customization and finally ending up with the style. how to choose the right materials and finishes for the space face planning is bar none the most common mistake that i see made in kitchen designs. you always want to start with space planning you measure the layout in the floor plan that you have to work with for your kitchen remodel and then we'll go from there make sure you first take measurements of the available floor space and then you can decide where everything goes you'll figure out your optimum work triangle and then we'll start to order appliances. one of the most common design mistakes i see made in kitchens is clearance issues that have to deal with doorways and walkways doors at least need to be 32 inches wide and swinging doors should interfere with appliances cabinets or other doors and impede the walkway hang doors.
So they swing out rather than in especially in a small space for correct clearance passageways through the kitchen the one without doors should be a minimum of 36 inches wide or larger. If you're standing in front of your refrigerator or stove walkways should at least be 42 inches wide for one cook or 48 inches for multiple cooks poor design of a work triangle you're probably asking what is a work triangle every experienced designer knows that in order to design a truly functional kitchen. you have to take into consideration the work triangle the work triangle might not be common knowledge to those embarking on a remodel. so here are the details the idea is that the work triangle improves a kitchen's functionality by minimizing walking distance between the most used appliances for comfort and safety the sum of the three distances should be no more than 27 feet and each stretch of the triangle should measure between four and nine feet no matter the size of the kitchen. if two or more people cook at the same time plan triangles for each cook these triangles might share one leg meaning they are located right next to each other but they should not cross each other core design workflow can be very impractical to a functional kitchen. when these are the three main features that you use daily maybe the refrigerator is on one end of the kitchen the sink on another and the stove top is so far away that you're making loops around your kitchen just to cook a simple meal the next design mistake is lack of countertop space.
when designing a Modular Kitchen recommend at least 150 inches of usable countertop space this includes lower cabinets that are at least 24 inches deep and has a clearance of 18 inches above it before placing your upper cabinets the countertop space could also include islands here are the minimum spatial requirements for countertop space next to appliances don't worry about remembering all of this i'll pop a caption out. so you can take a screenshot 24 inches next to one side of the sink for prep work 18 inches on the other 15 inches of countertop beside the refrigerator usually on the handle side or either side if you have column refrigerators or french doors 12 inches of counter top on one side of a cooking surface and 18 inches on the other. if you have more room than that that's great these are just the minimum requirements for a fully functioning kitchen that's designed well for kitchen layouts with island appliances. make sure you at least have nine inches on both sides of the burner for a separate oven include at least 15 inches of countertop on one side you have a tiny kitchen but you insist on an island you saw your dream kitchen online. somewhere and you're dying to have that huge massive island right in the center of it while kitchen islands definitely increase your preparation area they take up a lot of room.
So if you already don't have that room don't make the mistake island in the middle of your kitchen make sure you have at least 36 inches around the island for passage or it might be better to leave. it out of your design altogether my own kitchen is not that huge after i measured 36 inches away from all the base cabinets. Small square feet of usable space left the solution rolling cart with a stainless steel top that not only had extra storage. it acts as an extra surface for preparation and gained that usable countertop space the thing. moving piece of furniture if i need extra prep surface just roll it right up to my countertop space and then when i don't need that surface i'll just move it right back into the center another common design mistake is choosing furniture that doesn't fit your kitchen. when a countertop island doubles as a seating area a 30 inch wide space per stool is the most comfortable sometimes i see people jammed right next to each other and knocking elbows and that is just not a comfortable space to sit in you also need to make sure. Include sufficient leg room when designing a bar area plan for 15 inches for 36 inch counters which is considered counter height and 12 inches of leg space for 42 inch counters which is bar height this space allows.
To kick your legs and dangle freely underneath the counter space without hitting the cabinets in front of also want to make sure that you specify the right height stool for that space. As well if it's counter height choose a counter stool if it's bar height choose a bar stool it's a super simple concept to remember. people get it wrong all the time so measure first and always make sure that you're shopping with these measurements in mind speaking of bar stool and seating locations another common mistake is when there's not enough clearance to push stool out behind want to allow 36 inches behind the stool. so you can push it in and out with ease and people can still walk back and forth behind. moving on to choosing appliances and the electrical requirements a common mistake is not prioritizing the appliances first after draw the dimensions of the floor plan and figure out the spatial layout. the next thing do is choose appliances why do you need to choose appliances first choosing the appliances first and locating them within the confines of the kitchen will allow to custom fit all of the cabinetry that's happening around it knowing the exact measurements of each unit will allow to fit cabinets around your appliances giving you a seamless custom look that is well thought out and maximizes every square inch of space a common mistake is that people usually leave this task for last then realize nothing fits and then they wasted a lot of valuable space
The kitchen appliances list includes the refrigerator the cooktop the hood the sink the dishwasher and microwave or anything that is built in and requires electrical water or gas line to operate neglecting electrical needs all receptacles servicing countertop areas requires a that means it needs a ground fault circuit interrupter protection this outlet is designed. to shut off electrical power in the event that it faults to prevent electrical shock. once you know where your appliances are located you can then start to strategically place your outlets to account for them a kitchen should have at least one wall switch controlled light. With a switch placed at the entrance if your home is app controlled like mine is you might not want to bother with the placement of those switches but for resale value you'll need to consider. where you place these switch outlets if your kitchen only has one point of access you'll want to drop in a wall control switch there. if it has two points of access one on each side while we're talking about electrical needs you don't want to make the mistake of not including enough power plugs not only do you need plug sockets. everyday appliances like your microwave your toaster oven or a kettle you also want to take into consideration those less often used items maybe a blender and absolutely plan for your tablets your phone and some sort of charging station. also hide wireless chargers right inside the cabinet so all you need to do is right on the worktop and then it's charged another common mistake is forgetting to ventilate your appliances an outdoor venting ventilation system is crucial in any workhorse.
Type of kitchen the last thing you want to do is plan this beautiful kitchen and then all of a sudden every time you cook all those smells linger in the air and can't get them out of the house this is especially true for asian households. because you know that fish sauce can linger for days plus excess moisture can also lead to mold so make sure you plan for a hood with an extractor fan with an exhaust rate of 100 cubic feet of air per minute this design will help you avoid stale odors hanging in the air prefer ducted extractor range hoods these carry airborne particles outside versus microwave hood combos. with a ductless design that recirculate the air through a carbon filter find that they never remove all the cooking smells that well but whatever choose make sure that you install the hood at least 30 inches above the cooktop or per manufacturer's instructions if a microwave is placed below a countertop make sure that the bottom of the microwave is no more than 15 inches off the floor you also want to allow at least 15 inches of clearance above a refrigerator for proper ventilation another common mistake is poor locations of the interior fittings. This portion is more about storage and organization than it is about the actual design of the space but it's imperative to plan ahead. if you are customizing interior fittings of drawers and cabinets pots and pans on the opposite end of the stove trash can too far from the fridge and sink a two small prep sink that you can barely wash a large head of lettuce the solution for that is to plan ahead lastly for this portion it is poor communication with your builders you will always encounter some sort of mistakes that are made during a remodel the more mistakes i make with the previous design the better my chances of success with the next one most of the time this always comes to a lack of communication. with your builders to ensure everything runs smoothly agree to weekly schedule of work details before construction starts and speak to your builder on a regular if not daily basis you'll be able to catch any problems before they arise this way detailed drawings are a really big help. so you might want to hire an architect or an interior designer to help you draft up these plans when i design kitchen layouts for my clients i make sure that i print out the floor plan and every single elevation and tape them on the walls usually the wall where that elevation is talk to the builder or the project manager or even the team leader i make sure that they understand this is the drawing that correlates with what needs to be built out pictures speak a thousand words so definitely don't neglect those detailed plans these are the common mistakes made. when it comes to storage and custom interior fittings let's talk about the pantry the first mistake made in the kitchen is underestimating how much storage you need everyone wants more storage in their kitchen. whether or not it's cabinet space drawer space or pantry space it's easy to miscalculate just how much you'll need just like your closet to take inventory of everything you'll want to store in your new kitchen from pots pans shopping boards to a coffee machine tea accessories even a kitchenaid. Make sure you allocate a place for everything before you start planning your space. if you're designing for a small kitchen take advantage of vertical wall space with wall mounted pegboards. can also install long rods and bars devises clever ways to increase storage capacity in a small kitchen.
If you have leftover space on top of your kitchen you can also plan for a tall pantry cabinet right above that it's a great solution to put away your seasonal items really large party platters or even an area. where you can stash preserved food it's a great way to keep all of your supplies organized and in reach when you need it can even plan for a full height pantry cabinet if you have a little space left over where you have an upper cabinet a lower cabinet and a countertop would simply redesign that area and plan for a full height pantry cabinet instead. so you get more storage not paying attention to detail choosing the cabinets those fancy finishes and hardware for the design is usually what people do first for the kitchen but don't forget about what goes inside your cabinets and drawers drawer dividers pull out trays and corner drawers or lazy susan carousels are essential for a fully functional kitchen just a few the smart storage solutions .that will help keep your kitchen organized and maximize every nook and cranny if the interior fittings are in custom design when you design the cabinets and drawers you can also look for removable inserts that are sold separately another design mistake made for the kitchen and honestly one of my biggest pet peeves is not making room for hidden trash receptacles never forget to plan a place for your trash bins to place trash receptacles either nearby the sink or the refrigerator design a built-in bin that recesses inside cabinetry. this keeps the smelly trash inside the cabinets and it takes up way less floor space than a freestanding trash bin designed receptacle with a double bin one for general waste and one for recycling finally. we are at that portion of the.
Where it's the common mistakes that when it comes to style don't make these common mistakes when it comes to your materials and finishes i just want to reiterate that it is not a design mistake when your selections are intentional so just keep an open mind when i'm talking about mistakes with materials and finishes faucets and hardware matchy matchy everything makes your dynamic kitchen. it's one note and gets really old really fast it doesn't have to be super loud in your face contrast but remember that mixing metals is okay and actually encourage just remember thumb the same function the same finish picking the wrong design for your lifestyle let's talk about countertops a common design mistake made is not choosing the right countertop for functional needs think about your lifestyle and the people who live in the home it's a sad fact that some designs look incredible in a showroom or pinterest but in reality they just aren't compatible with your day-to-day lifestyle this is especially true for floors and countertops do you have kids do you need a workhorse type of culinary style kitchen love marble but afraid that it stains and you can't maintain it choose a durable and budget-friendly porcelain slab instead that mimics the look of your favorite marble veining love the hardness of granite but want something non-porous and low maintenance try quartz for a modern look with uniform color if you're having trouble choosing a countertop and make sure you refer back to my previous video how to choose a right counter top for your kitchen i share a lot of professional insight on the different types of countertops and how they function in your space don't forget a backsplash every kitchen needs a quality kitchen backsplash they protect walls from wet spills make it easier to clean up messes from cookers and countertops and adds color pattern and personalized design to your kitchen if you choose a tile make sure you source matching grout that blends in unless that's your design intent for high contrast be prepared to clean all those grout lines if you specify smaller tiles i actually prefer a seamless look for my backsplash. with a full height slab but if you don't go the full height and span the distance between your base cabinets and your upper cabinets you need at least three inches of backsplash for easy cleanup another common design mistake is opting for impractical finishes intricate designs carved or even three-dimensional tiles look fabulous in any type of showroom kitchen. when it comes to cleaning around all those nooks and crannies i mean it could be a nightmare to get all that grease off for preparation and cooking areas look for durable materials that are easy to wipe down preferably with a flat or non-textured surface picking poor quality paint you absolutely have to prime the walls before painting or else the heat and humidity in the kitchen will peel that top layer right off make sure that the product you choose is resilient to the daily wear and tear that kitchens endure store specialty paint that is resistant to grease and will withstand regular washing and wiping anything with a slight sheen satin or eggshell or semi-gloss will be a lot easier to wipe down than anything with no sheen flat or matte moving on to flooring you lay down the wrong floors kitchens are a busy high traffic wet area so you want to specify a finish that's durable and has an anti-slip finish thin and cheap materials can't bear the weight of heavy appliances.
so you need to look for something tough super smooth tiles will be slippery once you spill water on it look for waterproof or water resistant resilient flooring i've installed engineered hardwood laminate and even luxury vinyl planking in a kitchen before and sure wondering which one is the best and which one should you choose over the next the newer types of engineered wood and laminate all come with a water resistant finish. so if you're trying to choose between or engineer hardwood or laminate look to the manufacturer's labels to help guide you another common mistake i see is going overboard with open shelving open shelving can look stunning in a kitchen especially. if you have some impressive dishware to display but having visual access to everything can also look cluttered plus your kitchenware will easily gather dust if you don't use it every day include a mixture of open and close storage. so you can parade the porcelain and put the sippy cups in a drawer actually learned that from kelly wersler while was working for her another common mistake is overspending on the things that you don't see before undergoing a kitchen remodel. if you can reuse anything take a look at your base cabinets and if they are in good shape a lot of the times base cabinets are still structurally but the face or the door panel is a little bit dated or more traditional than you're going for in this case all you need to do is custom make new door panels or look for prefabricated doors in the sizes that you need this will give you a completely new look for a fraction of the cost buying without trying requesting samples is an absolute must before you commit to a major design in your kitchen especially. if you're shopping online ideally you need to see all of your finishes together so you can make sure that the colors the textures look exactly want it in your space finishes can look a lot different in a showroom versus your own home especially when the surrounding lighting and all of your furniture changes up the look another common mistake is following trends or going too bold.
it's a good idea to stay on top of trends so you can see what's out there but kitchen renovations are so expensive i mean most people only remodel or renovate their kitchen maybe every 7 to 10 years you want to design it in a way that is classic timeless and you won't get bored of it too soon. if you want to incorporate the latest finish or a really bold dramatic color it's safest to add them through accessories and small home appliances which you can then swap out really easily if your style changes on the flip side don't play it too safe either everyone white airy kitchen but white can look really sterile really fast in order to jazz up that plain white kitchen. you can look for a statement making countertop or backsplash think about the fixtures and hardware to inject a little bit more personality into the space don't forget those finishing touches you've planned out your workspace you figured out your traffic flow and now you know exactly all the stores you need but don't forget those finishing touches that will transform your kitchen from something really practical and functional into a living space that becomes the heart of the home artwork and accessories are an easy way to inject color and personality the seating area in your kitchen is also a place that you can cozy up to so choose upholstery wisely choosing impractical hardware. it's a common mistake to choose trendy hardware that looks cool but doesn't operate like we need them to this includes tiny knobs that may not be ergonomic to open with ease sleek handles that look streamlined but they're difficult to maneuver with wet hands reserve stylish hardware for standard cabinets that open easily and install pool handles that you can latch onto for drawers and panel-ready appliances that require a bit more effort to open definitely want to include my own impractical hardware mistake in this list in my black and white classic kitchen definitely knew that wanted brass handles .
Have them the one thing that neglected to consider and is still my biggest regret is that the handles are open-ended you can see from the handles that there's a central area where i can put fingers through to easily open up the drawers whole bunch of tops that have holes in them because it constantly gets stuck in these handles. so going to replace it out no they were expensive so i really just have to live with it for now and the next kitchen renovation i'll know exactly what to specify leaving the lighting to less it's also imperative to have layers of lighting in a kitchen you want to look for something versatile and stylish to add personality to all the standard appliances in the space an overhead pendant or chandelier as function and style spotlight task lighting like recess leds are good for preparing meals under cabinet lighting to light the countertops and work surfaces accent lighting. within the cabinets to show off your dishware and displays and don't forget about softer mood lighting for adjacent dining areas placed on dimmers for optimum control this type of layered design balances ambience and functionality and ensures that your kitchen will be well lit and visually appealing choosing the wrong window treatments. we all crave that beautiful natural daylight for our kitchens but intense sunlight can create harsh hot spots throughout the day shades or woven blinds over a kitchen sink since they're easy to clean and it rolls up and out of the way if you have full privacy in your kitchen window that looks out into a simple tailored balance can add softness to the window without obscuring the view and finally let's talk about the biggest mistake that you can make going over budget. kitchens are expensive and these little costs can rack up really quickly it's important to set a realistic budget from the beginning and try to stick to it a good rule of thumb is to not spend more than 20 percent of your home value on the kitchen renovation a third of that should go to the cabinets. it's also wise to leave at least 10 of your budget aside for will allow you to bargain and ensure that you get the best price before we wrap up want to talk to you about the design mistakes that in kitchen aside . Thanks for read my post

The WSL and Championship kick off this weekend, so here's a brief summary of all the PL's women's teams. Whether your club is one of the 13/20 in the top 2 divisions or far below, they're here!

This weekend the top two women's leagues in England, the Women's Super League and Women's Championship kick off. To mark that occasion I decided to do a mini write up on every PL's related women's club for those of you that are curious about your own club's women's team or all the clubs' sides.
After following Spurs for about a decade, I decided a few years ago that I didn't have enough whiplash from near successes and wanted to add their women's team to the mix, which at the time was in the 3rd division. The ensuing years have been mostly upds as they've gone from the (mostly) amateur game (National League), to the semi-pro/pro 2nd division (Championship), to finally their first ever season in the fully professional Women's Super League.
While the results were great, it also has been really rewarding to get to know names that were servants to the club that they and I love but fans likely will never had heard of or will hear of. Case in point is the recently retired Jenna Schicalli who was born and raised a Spurs fan, recently ending her last stint with the team from 2009-2020 in which she helped captain the team through multiple promotions, including the two I just spoke of. It's interesting to hear the perspective of players that are playing simply for the love of the game and club, since often times they have to have another job to supplement the little income they get outside of the top flight.
Following the ups and downs of the women's team has been rewarding for me, getting at times either double the joy from victories across the club or double the pain from defeats on the same weekend. But either way it was more football for me, and that's part of why I love the women's game. Maybe you will be in the same place as me and maybe not, but I figured at the very least this sort of post may pique your curiosity to see where your women's side sits in the pyramid in comparison to the men's side in the PL. Are they also in the top flight? Not far out in the Championship? Or down in the regional leagues?
I'll be trying to provide a brief summary for where each team is at, and due to a lack of info and familiarity some teams (especially the lower league teams) won't have the most info but I'll do my best!
It should be noted that the 3rd tier and below had their seasons cancelled with no pro/rel, whereas the WSL and Championship had their seasons canceled but PPG was still used to decide pro/rel and Champions League places. So that's why some teams were promoted and relegated while other first or last finishers didn't move at all.

FAQ

What competitions are going on this season?

How can I watch the leagues? (Inside and outside the UK)

If you're in the UK WSL matches will be broadcast on BT Sport and BBC iPlayeRed Button. The rest will be free to view with an account on the FA Player website. Currently only one Championship match a week will be streamed, though all WSL and Championship matches will be available to be viewed on demand in the FA Player website.
Outside the UK, the answer is similar to the answer I just provided, substituting BT Sport and BBC for other TV broadcasters in select nations. If your country/region doesn't have a TV deal, all WSL matches and will be available live for free on the FA Player!
When it comes to the lower leagues, some teams have streamed matches but it's largely absent from the women's game outside of the top league(s).

Where can I talk about the leagues?

/FAWSL has been restarted and is gaining traction as a place to discuss all the relevant clubs and matches. There are women's club subreddits for some of the large teams, but it seems that most PL club subreddits are open to women's team news being posted there as well.

Arsenal

Current League: WSL (1st tier) | 19/20 finish: 3rd/12
As much as I hate to say it, one of the titans of the English women's game. Arsenal are ever-present around the CL spots (fitting for the only English team to actually win the competition), though last year they finished just outside a CL spot in 3rd place on PPG as the WSL season was decided early. They'll only have domestic competition to focus on this year, and that may end up being to their benefit. Having arguably the best women's player in the world in Vivianne Miedema doesn't hurt either, with the 24 year old still improving year after year.
Opening fixture: Arsenal vs Reading - 6th September 12:30 BST – Watch live for free on the FA Player
FA Cup 2019/20: Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur on 26th/27th September - Watch live on BBC iPlayer and BBC Red Button

Aston Villa

Current League: WSL | 19/20 finish: 1st/11 in Championship on PPG (Promoted)
The lone promoted side in this year's league, taking Liverpool's place. Villa will be aiming to stay in the WSL and will likely achieve that with (relative) ease, looking at the improvement from this off-season on their already strong Championship squad.
Opening fixtures: Aston Villa 0-2 Manchester City - 5th September 14:30 BST - Watch live on BT Sport (UK), or free on the FA Player (International)

Brighton & Hove Albion

Current League: WSL | 19/20 finish: 9th/12 in WSL; 19/20 FA Cup quarterfinal vs Birmingham City on 26/27 September
Brighton are still relatively fresh blood in the WSL, only joining in 18/19 as one of two promotions during the restructuring of the top two leagues. They finished 9th/11 in their first season after promotion from WSL 2 (now Championship) and last season didn't get a chance to prove they had improved, finishing 9th/12. They likely don't have anything to fear in regards to relegation, with their seasoned squad having a lot of professional experience by now, but with how other teams around them have been improving you likely won't see them climb much higher up the table.

FA Cup 2019/20: Brighton & Hove Albion vs Birmingham City - 26th/27th September

Burnley

Current League: FA Women's National League North (Premier Division) [3rd tier] | 19/20 finish: 5th/12
Following back to back promotions from the 5th tier in 17/18 and 4th tier in 18/19, Burnely found themselves playing just a single step below the semi-professional game. They finished a surprising 5th with a few matches in hand on some of the teams above them, but there likely would have been no catching league leaders Sunderland who had yet to lose a match in 14 played.
Opening fixture: Sunderland AFC Ladies v Burnley FC Women on Sunday 20th September

Chelsea

Current League: WSL | 19/20 finish: 1st/12 in WSL (Champs), 19/20 League Cup Champs
One of the standard bearers for women's club football in England, Chelsea won their first league title since 2017-18 (not the longest wait, eh?) Chelsea will be aiming to once again win the league as well as to reach their first ever Champions League final. Chelsea have reached the semi-finals in their last two attempts (17/18 & 18/19) but were knocked out by Wolfsburg and Lyon, two of the most dominant sides in women's Champions League history.
Adding Danish women's national team captain Pernille Harder this summer for a world record transfer fee in women's football probably will help give them a slight boost in the league and CL. That's in addition to Sam Kerr who Chelsea added in the second half of 2019. The Australian at age 26 is already the all time leading scorer in two leagues, NWSL in the United States and W-League in Australia.

FA Cup 2019/20: Everton vs Chelsea on 26th/27th September

Crystal Palace

Current League: Championship | 19/20 finish: 9th/11
Palace joined the WSL 2 (now Championship) in 2018/19 during the restructuring of the 1st and 2nd women's divisions, gaining their spot through an application. They had finished 3rd in their league so they weren't slouches, but they still have yet to break through to midtable of the Championship. They finished 10th/11 in their first foray in the 2nd division, below all four of the other newly promoted sides including Sheffield United who were actually a division below them in 17/18. They didn't get to prove themselves much better than that in 19/20, only finishing one place higher when the season was cut short this past spring. All that said, they have added players with WSL and Championship experience and should hopefully finish at least mid-table in this upcoming Championship season.

Everton

Current League: WSL | 19/20 finish: 6th/12; 19/20 FA Cup quarter-final vs Chelsea 26/27 September
Everton finished midtable last year but their 10 additions between spring (3) and summer (7) may have them either on the outskirts of a Champions League spot if everything clicks or stalling or falling in the table due to needing time to click. French forward Valerie Gauvin is likely the new addition to watch in their squad.

FA Cup 2019/20: Everton vs Chelsea on 26th/27th September

Fulham

Current League: London and South East Women's Regional Football League (5th) | 19/20 finish: 5th/10
The lowest division representative in this list, Fulham have a storied history, one with the highest of highs and lowest of lows. Highlights include in 2000 they were the first full-time professional women's side and a 2003 FA Cup victory. Sadly the team was dissolved twice in four years (2006 & 2010), not reforming until 2014 as Fulham FC Foundation ladies. Fulham have been in the 5th tier since 14/15, winning promotion from the 6th tier the previous season. They finished a surprising 4th/10 in their first season in the top flight, but haven't been able to finish past 5th, routinely in the lower half of the table though not needing to stave off relegation. The team has been receiving more and more attention and from the main club notably becoming Fulham FC Women in 2018 with reinvestment in the team, and that may lead to improved results this upcoming season and hopefully promotion in the near future.
Opening fixture: Denham United vs Fulham FC on Sunday 13th September

Leeds United

Current league: National League Division One North (4th tier) | 19/20 finish: 2nd/12
Leeds United were among the top sides fighting for promotion, the closest challenger to Barnsley when the season was called off. It is expected that they should be able to repeat that effort this season. The club has yet to reach the semi-professional game, and finally exiting the 4th tier would be a huge step in achieving progress to that goal.
Opening fixture: Norton & Stockton vs Leeds United on 20 September

Leicester City

Current League: Championship | 19/20 finish: 6th
Leicester City was brought into the fold of the main club, going from a partner to being integrated as one of only a few fully professional clubs in the Championship. They'll likely be fighting with Liverpool and Sheffield for the one promotion spot, and one shouldn't doubt their capabilities in winning it all.
They're the lone 2nd division team left in the 2019/20 FA Cup, though with just about the toughest draw, facing the defending champs Manchester City.

FA Cup 2019/20: Leicester City vs Manchester City 26th/27th September

Liverpool

Current League: Championship | 19/20 finish: 12th/12 in WSL (Relegated)
Lot of criticism has been swirling around this team, some just and unjust, but even the main club could understand that the men winning the league and the women being relegated in the same season wasn't the best look. Sure, the fact that they went on PPG in a season that didn't complete didn't give them a fair shake, but they'll have to prove this season that they truly belong in the WSL. In Leicester City and Sheffield United they have very strong opponents in the fight for promotion.
Opening fixture: Liverpool vs Durham on Sunday 6th September 14:00 BST - Watch for free on the FA Player*

Manchester City

Current League: WSL | 19/20 finish: 2nd/12 in WSL
Perennial 2nd place finishers in recent years, outside of a league win in 2016, City have finished 2nd every season since 2015. Losing this past season on PPG has to be one of the more bitter pills to swallow, but after a 2-0 loss to Chelsea for the newly revived Women's Community Shield this past weekend, City will be hoping that their new recruits including Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle, 2019 World Cup winners with the United States, will help push them past the hurdle of 2nd place as well as give them a boost in Europe. Similar to Chelsea, they have yet to reach a Champions League final, only making it to the Round of 32 and Round of 16 in the last two seasons, getting knocked out by Atletico Madrid both years.

FA Cup 2019/20: Leicester City vs Manchester City 26th/27th September

Manchester United

Current League: WSL | 19/20 finish: 4th/12 in WSL on PPG
The best of the rest outside of the top 3, which is pretty good for a team in only its 3rd season of existence. They easily won the Championship in 18/19 with only 1 draw and 1 loss and their first year in the WSL saw them continue their impressive form. This year they're aiming to challenge for the Champions League, though it should be said that last year there was a clear gap between them and a CL spot with 4th placed United getting 1.64 PPG while Arsenal in 3rd had 2.40.
The Red Devils hope that the additions of World Champions Tobin Heath and Cristen Press will propel them to a Champions League spot this year, finally breaking into the top 3 of the WSL after a long wait of...3 years.

Newcastle United

Current League: National League Division One North (4th tier) | 19/20 finish: 6th/12
Newcastle had been in the 3rd division as recently as 2016/17 when they were relegated after gaining only 7 points in 20 matches. They have yet to truly challenge for promotion back into the 3rd tier, finishing 5th, 9th, and 6th in their seasons after relegation. Most recently the team entered into a partnership with Northumbria University to provide Strength and Conditioning, Performance Analysis and Physiotherapy as well as management of the club itself.
Opening fixture: Durham Cestria vs Newcastle United on Sunday 20th September

Sheffield United

Current League: Championship | 19/20 finish: 2nd/11
Sheffield finished under Aston Villa in PPG and it's a wonder where the two teams would have finished in a full season. That said, their solid base has been improved upon roster wise, but the loss of manager Carla Ward to WSL side Birmingham City may be the largest challenge to the club. They took their time in replacing her, and it'll be up to former Liverpool Women and Newcastle United U23 manager Neil Redfearn to keep up with Leicester and Liverpool.

Southampton

Current League: National League Division One South West (4th tier) | 19/20 finish: 1st/11
After back to back promotions from the 6th tier in 17/18 and 5th tier in 18/19, Southampton FC Women were looking to establish themselves in their first season in the 4th division. They ended up fighting with similarly named Southampton Women's F.C. for promotion to the 3rd tier, but with only 11 and 12 matches played respectively, it's a wonder who would have been the side to clinch the league. Southampton's official women's side should expect to be the favorites going into this season, but time will tell for how things add up.
Opening fixture: Poole Town vs Southampton FC on Sunday 20th September

Tottenham Hotspur

Current League: WSL | 19/20 finish: 7th/12;
Spurs are a contrast to Manchester United, both being promoted to the WSL the same year but under quite different circumstances. After years in the lower tiers Spurs were able to get a bit more investment to add to some of their longterm players. After each subsequent season they've retooled their squad with each season, exemplified by the fact that Josie Green is the only remaining player on the squad that played with the team in the amateur game. Speaking of that time, Spurs' results truly bloomed in 2016/17 when they won four trophies, including promotion to the 2nd division. They finished 7th place in 2017/18, their first semi-professional season, the highlight being securing their first ever victories over top flight sides in cup competitions. The 2018/19 saw them rocket up the table, finishing 2nd and in a promotion spot under the juggernauts of Manchester United. Their first WSL season followed a similar pattern to their first WSL 2 season, once again finishing 7th and they're still waiting to play in their furthest advanced round in the FA Cup, a quarter-final with Arsenal.
I'm dreading Spurs' match vs Arsenal in the FA Cup later this month, but I am happy when I look back on prior results and see all the progress that has been made. Spurs had an infamous 10-0 loss to Arsenal in the Round of 16 back in 2016/17 when they were an amateur side, but when facing them in league play this past season 2 1/2 years later, they only lost 2-0. They're still looking for that first win over a top half side in the WSL, but with a season of WSL under the squad and management's belt, they should be able to achieve an upper mid-table finish and hopefully be an increasingly challenging fixture against the top sides.

West Bromwich Albion

Current League: National League Premier Division North (3rd tier) | 19/20 finish: 7th/12
West Brom have had a brief yo-yo situation as of late, finishing 6th in their division 16/17, relegated from the 3rd tier in 17/18, winning back promotion 18/19, and seeming to settle back into midtable in 19/20. At this point it seems they should be focusing on stability and remaining in the 3rd division.
Opening fixture: West Bromwich Albion vs Nottingham Forest on Sunday 20th September

West Ham United

Current league: WSL | 19/20 finish: 8th/12
West Ham are another team that's relatively new to the WSL, making the surprising jump from the 3rd tier amateur game all the way to the professional game in 2018/19, bypassing the Championship when the FA was restructuring the leagues. They settled right into midtable in their first WSL season with a 7th place finish, the highlight being a surprising FA Cup final appearance in what ended up a 3-0 loss to Man City. The next season saw them stay in just about the same place, finishing 8th on PPG. As the team has brought in more players on a permanent or temporary loan basis, West Ham will be looking to finish in the upper midtable and challenge fellow midtable sides as well as the CL contenders more evenly.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Current League: National League Division One Midlands (4th tier) | 19/20 finish: 1st/12
One of the victims of the lower leagues getting cancelled with no pro/rel, Wolverhampton were running away with their league on 14 wins, 1 loss, and an incredible +73 goal differntial when the season was cancelled. Wolves will hope to repeat their dominance but this time with a complete season and the reward of promotion to the 3rd tier, just a league below the Championship.
Opening fixture: Leafield Athletic vs Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday 20th September
Hope that was interesting to folks, let me know if I got anything wrong or you have any questions. There will be match threads on /FAWSL for some of the matches today, hope you join in on the discussion if your team is playing!

The Story of April Strange

April Strange was born with half a face.
No matter what iteration of the story you heard, or how many details differed from the last, it always started the same. With a sad little girl missing half her face.
April Strange was a well known legend in the village. She was the daughter of the mayor in the early 1900’s and she disappeared aged only nine years old.
That much was fact. April Strange had a tragic existence, and her vanishing act only resulted in more conspiracies surrounding the ill fated girl. A small village like ours loves to gossip.
It was said that April was badly bullied at school. Her father opted to send her to a local, public school despite his vast wealth. He wanted her to be a grounded child, with roots in her community.
Mayor Strange didn’t listen to her complaints about class or how she was teased by the other children. He saw her merely as an accessory; his poor, disfigured daughter who could win him the sympathy vote and improve public perception.
That’s all speculation of course. It’s a story that has been passed down for generations. Edited to fit whoever was listening to the tale. I’ll continue with the version I was told. The one that haunted my whole childhood.
April’s bullying took a nasty turn. She wore her hair long and over her face which only attracted the attention of the bullies as it wasn’t in keeping with the times. During a craft session at school a particularly vile boy named Edwin Mode crept up behind April and grabbed hold of her long locks before severing them with scissors.
April Strange cried and the class sat and laughed, mocking the dejected girl. Their attacks intensified and soon they were following her home regularly, calling her awful names, tripping her up and trying to push her into puddles.
No one is really sure what happened to April. She left her house one morning and never arrived on the school bus; there was a well documented investigation that turned up absolutely nothing.
The most commonly accepted theory is that the bullies took things too far one day and killed the girl before conspiring to bury their mistake. Several kids were late for school the day of the disappearance and they were reported as “acting shifty” but not a shred of evidence was found. And not one of them broke.
Until Edwin Mode broke.
Not as in broke down and told the police what happened to April. No. The village kids had formed some sort of pact and none of them were going to confess to the murder.
Edwin Mode quite literally broke in two. He was climbing a tree on the green with friends and made it higher than he ever had before. He raised his arms in victory and the branch broke, sending Edwin plummeting. After a particularly nasty drop he landed on a strong upright branch that split his entire body down the middle. It was a grisly sight.
The town mourned. I remember my older sister telling me the story for the first time and pulling out old newspapers that my great grandmother had collected. Articles outlining the tragedy of a minute village that had lost two children in the space of a few weeks.
It was tragic, but that’s all it was. The death of Sally Greenwood was what turned April Strange into a local campfire legend.
Sally Greenwood was a known bully. There were witnesses to her tormenting April and she was a good friend of Edwin. Devastated by the news of his death Sally visited the small playground by the village hall to play on the swing set, like her and Edwin had before his untimely demise.
As she swung in a morose fashion a screw at the top of the swing set’s large metal frame loosened. Sally was too sad to notice. A local teen walking his dog saw her swinging. He also saw the frame collapse, instantly crushing Sally Greenwood’s head into mush.
My sister told me that he got her brains on his shoes. I’m not sure if that’s true. But it terrified me as a child.
The teen spoke to the police and reported seeing two girls, one swinging and one climbing the frame, who wasn’t there after the accident. He described the other girl, matching April Strange’s description to the letter.
Another failed manhunt ensued and speculation over the two freak accidents sparked widespread hysteria. The villagers believed that the ghost of April Strange was seeking vengeance on the kids that wronged her. And not a single one of them had enough faith in their child’s innocence to believe they were exempt.
What a sad indictment on attitudes to children in those days. Was it a wonder that they were so cruel to April? Their parents had been too complacent to teach them empathy.
The mass panic became such a source of distress for Mayor Strange and his wife that they shut down the search for their daughter.
A string of unexplained and grotesque accidents plagued the village children. They died indiscriminately, each in a more horrifying fashion than the last. Many witnesses to these unfortunate accidents insisted they had seen a young girl with only half a face.
The parents of the dead kids never talked about April. Some folk speculated that they were trying to ignore the truth, others speculated that April Strange herself visited them, blaming them for the deaths and condemning them to a life filled with guilt.
Many of the mothers and fathers committed suicide or spent time in insane asylums. I suppose that’s to be expected when one loses their child so young and with so little purpose.
Almost an entire class of children were wiped out. A few remained. Those who had often been targets of the bullies themselves or who had shown April what small kindness she knew in her short life.
They passed the story down to their children, who passed it onto their children. The tale was largely used as a tool to convince kids to be nice to each other.
Adults tried to play it down to any child that was too scared. But they couldn’t deny the pattern of problem children found dead in outlandish accidents. And they couldn’t hide that from their own children. For a tiny population, the village’s mortality rate was through the roof.
I remember the nightmares I had as a kid, images of April Strange staring with her one eye through my windows plagued my dreams. It was a story far too frightening for the children it was told to, but for the most part, it worked.
I never made fun of another kid. I know many of you will think that I’m lying but I really never did. I was far too scared of the girl with half a face coming to get me to even consider it. And so were most of the village children.
As I got older I didn’t think about April as much. During high school I would’ve laughed at anyone taking the urban legend seriously. She occasionally made her way into my thoughts at poignant moments; once when a new girl joined my class and I felt compelled to be her friend and make sure that everyone was nice to her.
Another time April crossed my mind was when that same girl’s younger brother was found face down in a pool of blood in the primary school bathroom. He had slipped on soap that had been dripped when some kids, who had been in the bathroom just moment before him, used it to stick toilet paper to the ceiling.
He was propelled forwards, hitting the sink with such force that he gave himself a fatal head injury. By chance no one entered the bathroom for around 30 minutes, leaving him to die on the floor.
He didn’t know the story of April Strange. He had called a girl ugly just an hour before he died, making her cry in front of her peers. Village people started to gossip about the ghost, just like they had all those years ago.
I couldn’t deny the striking coincidences that made the tale so terrifying. My new friend moved away not long after. Her parents had heard enough tales of a hundred year old dead girl to think that we were all batshit crazy. That’s what I presumed anyway. I didn’t take proper note of the haunted expression that they both wore, that held more fear than it did grief.
I couldn’t blame them for leaving.
Years passed without incident. The story had been shared so widely that our town became quite a friendly place for young children. Kids can be cruel, but kids behave when there’s fear involved. They all knew someone who had succumbed to the supposed curse. It was enough to keep them in line.
I married a local man not long after high school and we moved into a modest sized home. I worked as a night carer and him as a fisherman. A few years after our wedding I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. We chose to name him Henry, and he was perfect.
I doted on my son, throwing myself into motherhood with everything I had. In truth, I probably spoiled him a little. He was a jealous baby, who didn’t want to share toys at playgroup. I tried desperately to teach him kindness and tolerance, but my life became a cacophony of other mothers tutting in disapproval.
I thought of April and vowed that I would tell him the tale when he was old enough to understand. I wasn’t certain of the story’s truth myself, but I wasn’t willing to take the risk.
As Henry grew he was as sweet as sugar whenever his father and I were watching. Our concerns from his pre communicative phase appeared unfounded. My son had lots of friends and, once he reached pre school, glowing reviews from his teachers.
There never seemed to be an appropriate time to sit Henry down and discuss the story of April Strange with him. It just never came up. What point should a parent deem it necessary to terrify their child like that?
I remember a friend bringing their son over for a play date and she had just told him the story after catching him harassing her very unsociable cat. The poor kid was traumatised. She said he hadn’t slept all night and he looked as if part of his innocence had been ripped away from him. It seemed too harsh a punishment. Too harsh a way to teach a lesson. I couldn’t in good faith do that to Henry.
After all, I couldn’t see that I had anything to worry about. My son was a good boy, he was no bully.
In Henry’s third year of school I was proven wrong. I was called in at pickup time to discuss and incident with his teacher.
My son had taken a girls glasses and held them out of reach, eventually dropping them resulting in smashed glass and a very visually impaired child. His teacher was somber as she told me, she knew exactly what Henry’s actions meant.
I hadn’t told him the story. And I was going to suffer for it.
I was horrified at my sons behaviour. I lambasted him but I also didn’t let him out of my sight. I must have watched his reflection in the rear view mirror more than the road as we drove home.
I saw potential catastrophe everywhere. So I came up with the bright idea to build a pillow fort in the living room. Henry loved forts. I knew that I shouldn’t be rewarding him for his bad behaviour but the pillows seemed to be the safest option. I could stay in it with him and even if it collapsed he would be safe.
I cursed myself silently. Ridiculous. I thought to myself as I processed spending my time and energy protecting myself from a ghost story invented to scare children.
Still, I couldn’t shake the images of April in my mind. The sad little dead girl with half a face.
I tried to keep my eyes open all night. I didn’t leave his side. His father was out working for the night so I couldn’t share my burden, I was left alone to deal with my anxieties. But I couldn’t deter bodily functions.
Around 11pm I had to pee. I’d tried to hold it for so long but I couldn’t do it any longer. Henry was asleep. He couldn’t have been in a safer position than he was. Two minutes couldn’t hurt, surely?
I sat in the brightly lit bathroom upstairs in our home. Thinking of the mistakes I’d made. Wondering if it was too late to tell my son the story, to save him from his own cruelty. Then the knocking came.
tap... tap... tap
It was slow and calculated, not the result of a bird or tree branch. And it was coming from outside the upstairs bathroom window. My blood ran cold. I picked up my knickers and peered through the gap in the open top section.
What I saw nearly caused a heart attack.
A great mass of maimed and contorted children, forming a spectacularly macabre ladder of sorts, directly to the window. I tried to move my legs, to run down the stairs to my son but I couldn’t. I was frozen to the spot, taking in the morbid pile of flesh.
I suddenly understood why none of the dead kid’s parents had chosen to speak about the accidents. How could they even begin to explain this.
A small figure worked its way up the chain. It reminded me of the masses that ants form in order to float or climb. The entire structure moved and adapted, bones and limbs extending to form pegs for the climbing child. Parts of bodies writhed in sickening motion.
When she reached the top she looked me dead in the eyes. She was everything I had imagined, the exact face that had haunted my childhood nightmares for years. And I was face to face with her.
April Strange.
Her lone eye was filled with sadness, tears glazing it’s surface and highlighting the brilliant blue colour of her iris. The missing half of her face wasn’t scarred, like you would expect in someone with a disfigurement like hers. The skin was smooth, like the features were never supposed to be there in the first place.
We stared at each other for a lingering moment. She was so mesmerising I was briefly distracted from the horrendous human tower that she balanced on top of. Only briefly.
In my peripheral vision I noticed a boy, his face staring up at me from around halfway up the ladder. His mouth was wide open with a large, thick tree branch jutting out of it. Edwin Mode. April was balancing on the bodies of her own victims.
She noticed the shock in my eyes and I noticed the sadness in hers developing into anger and malice. She opened her mouth, fused together on one side and in a raspy, obviously unused voice, she spoke.
You should have taught him to be nice. This is all your fault.
Her words were accompanied by an almighty crash from downstairs and a half smile, stretched across the side of her face. I felt my heart thumping against my rib cage as I pondered what fate my son may have met.
In a blink she was gone. Along with the whole monstrous structure that she arrived on. I took a sharp inhale and forced my weak legs to turn and bolt down the stairs.
I was too late.
There’s no worse feeling than the anticipation of something awful. Especially when that particular something is inevitable. As I turned the door knob to enter the front room I prepared for the horrors that I might face. Preparation didn’t make me feel ready though. Nothing could’ve readied me for what I saw.
The dusty old feature light that hung in the centre of the ceiling had snapped from its fixture. The faux crystals and beads scattered the floor... some spattered with crimson flecks.
I wept as I spotted the damp red pillow that had once been a brilliant white, with a piece of metal leaf detailing from the light speared through it. Fighting tears and the urge to vomit I moved the pillow aside to finally reveal my son.
Henry had been impaled through the head deep enough to penetrate his brain. There was no way to save him. The long, narrow piece of metal had destroyed his beautiful face.
Well. Half of it.
April had made sure that whenever I thought of my son this image would be burned into my mind. Her image.
I wish things could’ve been different. I wish I hadn’t been so concerned with scaring him. Now I spend my days riddled with guilt, imagining how painful eternal damnation to the ghost girls tower must be.
I wish I had just told him the story of April Strange.
