I don’t like it, but she says we have to.” She lifted her chin to look up at him. “And if I have to, so do you.” Lucifer’s shocked features melted into understanding. “Ahhh, I see,” he purred. “Misery loves company. You know I coined that phrase, right?” “What?” Lucifer closed his eyes. He’s your Dad and you had a big fight with him, and now you aren’t talking anymore. I still don’t like Miles Tooley, but after we were made to talk, I found out he was a bully because his dad was. And that got me thinking. What if there’s something in God’s past that you don’t know about? Something that stops you two from being close.” Lucifer chuckled and looked at the ceiling overhead. “Kid, The Almighty is an open book, and as his creations, we all play our part. Mine is to be the black sheep that can never go home. Without me, people have no reason to follow his word. I was banished, kid. Do you get that? I screwed up and cost Hell a chunk of their lost souls … that they weren’t using,” he added quickly, knowing that defence hadn’t saved him all that time ago when he was brought back to Heaven in chains amidst the very angry Highborn Hellions. “And a deal was struck between them. I had to pretend to rule Hell so that evil-doers had somewhere other than Heaven to go.” Lucifer looked down at her wide eyes and wondered if he had already said too much. He kept going. “And Hell got the double bonus of extra souls to torment and all the power that came from the belief that I ruled Hell.” “That’s not fair.” Lucifer’s laugh was hollow. “That’s the point, kid. Gotta Collect 'Em All: Hype Decks and Popular Playing Card Series When you're into cardistry, you'll know a thing or two about playing cards. They are, after all, the tools of the trade. And you'll quickly discover that there's a lot of different custom decks out there, many of which are great for card flourishing. A vast amount of cards that have already been produced, and there's steady flow of new cards that are being released on an ongoing basis. Arguably the most popular playing cards beloved by cardists and collectors alike are what some refer to as "hype decks". These are decks that have effectively become a brand of their own by virtue of their sheer popularity. In the last few years alone there are several "brands" that have generated a huge wave of momentum. Almost every new release is quickly sold out, and previous releases don't take long to fetch high prices in the secondary market, as buyers scramble to "collect 'em all". In this article we'll introduce you to some of the more popular series of this sort, which are beloved by both cardists and by playing card collectors. FONTAINES The Fontaine brand is one of the biggest and most recognizable brands in the world of playing cards today, especially in cardistry circles. When you first see a Fontaine deck of cards you might wonder why. After all, what is there to get excited about card backs which have a lower-case "f" put together in a simple and minimalist design, and card faces that are mostly standard? The reason for the success of this brand is the man behind it, Zach Mueller. Zach began making a name for himself with his creative cardistry videos, some of which went viral on youtube. Inspired by the iconic Jerry's Nugget casino deck which appears later on this list, around 2013 Zach whipped up a simple design of his own, printed the deck, and began using it in his cardistry videos. It wasn't even originally conceived as deck that would be published more widely, nor was including it in his cardistry videos originally intended as a marketing gimmick. But the popularity of his videos did have the result of producing a demand for decks like the one Zach was using. When he tried his hand at crowdfunding one, it became an instant success. Zach built on this success with further releases of the same design but in different colours, and later expanded his Fontaine brand to include clothing and other merchandise. Today the Fontaine company has a significant number of releases every year, and they are typically so much in demand that each sells out in minutes. The Orbit series is extremely popular with card flourishers, and it's not surprising why. The circle design on the card backs makes it ideal for cardistry. The first version of the deck was blue, had a print run of only 2500, and only managed to hit its Kickstarter target on the final day when it was put up for crowdfunding in 2015. In contrast, today collectors can't get enough of them! The fourth edition alone had a print run of ten times that amount, and the first few versions of the deck will now cost a pretty penny on the secondary market - if you can find them. Common to most of the decks in the series is of course the signature circle look of the card backs. But there's also the regular presence of light-hearted jokers, mini-astronauts, and even tiny orbitting rockets on the card backs, all of which capture something of the galactic and space theme, and add elements of warm humor. There have been minor tweaks to the design to ensure that each deck is not just a simple recolouring of the previous version. The V7 deck is noteworthy for its retro pink and blue colours, and for including a tribute to the failed mission of the space shuttle Challenger in 1986, and has the added bonus of being a very cleverly marked deck. The face cards of the Orbit decks mostly feature a style borrowed from the classic Arrco decks, which gives them a slightly different feel from your typical Bicycle deck, while ensuring that they still have a very familiar, recognizable, and practical look. Some of the decks feature even members of the Orbit crew as the court card characters. It is certainly a successful formula, and these are versatile playing cards that are both novel and familiar enough to make them suit a variety of purposes, from card flourishing to card magic. The short version is that these striking red and blue decks were first printed in the early 1970s for Jerry's Nugget Casino in Las Vegas. They ended up in storage instead of being used at the casino, and eventually made their way to the gift shop, where they were sold for a dollar or two each. At this point they were discovered by some big name cardists, who began popularizing them via their videos, and spoke highly of their handling qualities, which were the result of printing methods that couldn't be replicated with modern methods. The demand for them grew, but by this time they were sold out. With a limited supply and increased demand, they slowly became a holy grail for collectors, prices typically reaching $500 per deck on the market. Around 2019 Lee Asher became involved with a project to reprint the cards, to make them readily available again, and put them in the hands of a new generations of cardists and collectors. A deal was brokered between Expert Playing Card Company and Jerry's Nugget Casino, and with the help of an incredibly successful Kickstarter project that fetched nearly half a million dollars, a new edition of Jerry's Nugget decks hit the market. The new decks are almost like the original, but consist of a Modern Feel version printed by USPCC and a Vintage Feel version printed by EPCC. The scene was ripe for capitalizing on the popularity of these classic decks, and so the deck was subsequently reprinted in colours like Teal, Coral, Black, Steel Grey, Yellow, Orange, Green, and purple. There are also some limited editions like Pink, and there are even special limited editions with gilding. This is also the concept that lies at the heart of the Cherry Casino decks, which is a series of playing cards produced under the Pure Imagination label. Pure Imagination Projects was founded in 2013 by Derek McKee, and the first Cherry Casino deck was produced around 2015 in a bright aqua colour. The idea was to draw on the image of an old time casino, hence the classic cherry artwork familiar from slot machines, an iconic symbol of gambling. Several versions then followed in successive years, as the Cherry Casino decks slowly grew in popularity One of the drawcards of this series is the bold metallic ink used on the cardbacks for most of these decks, which instantly sets them apart from your average deck. One of my personal favourite colours in this series is the Tahoe Blue, which is inspired by one of the clearest and deepest lakes in the United States, Lake Tahoe. The use of metallic ink on card backs creates a gorgeous and inviting pearlescent blue that is hard to get enough of. The Cherry Casino decks are also very versatile and practical, and the relatively standard card faces makes them ideal for card magic or for playing card games. Yet the striking card backs also makes them very appealing for cardists and collectors. This creates the ideal combination of something striking and something simple, which is the greatest strength of the Cherry Casino series. The vibrant and eye-catching colours, set them apart from the competition, and give them the magnetic quality that collectors look for, while they remain functional and suitable for a variety of uses. Other team members joined them over time, and they began releasing cardistry videos on their youtube channel. Around 2012 one of their cardistry videos went viral and was eventually featured on the Discovery Channel, which only increased the growing interest in their work, especially their creative card flourishing videos. It was also around this time that The Virts came up with the idea of designing a deck of card that was specifically geared towards cardistry. They used a design that was strongly geometric in flavour, and where even the court cards and number cards were optimized for card flourishing, to enhance the visual aesthetic of cards in motion. Today it's quite common for a deck to be optimized for cardistry, and there's a ready market waiting to buy decks like this. But at the time this was a groundbreaking idea, and even somewhat of a financially risky one. But card flourishers welcomed the very first Virtuoso deck with open arms, and the deck proved to be more successful than ever imagined. Since the release of their first deck, The Virts have continued to release follow-up decks on a somewhat regular basis. Typically each new release is accompanied by a flashy video that showcases the amazing cardistry of The Virts themselves, which is cleverly accentuated by their cardistry-friendly cards. Their signature geometric design is common to all of the decks released so far, and the eye-catching colours and consistently handling qualioty ensure that card flourishers love it. Recent times have seen the rate of their releases slow down, but news in 2020 about their latest deck - which is scheduled to come out in 2021 - generated a new wave of excitement. This brand is originally the brainchild of Cameron Toner and Nathan Lex, who started OPC while they were in college, combining Cameron's love for card magic and Nathan's love for cardistry. The company has since evolved, and others have come on board as they grew. Their original goal was simply to produce a fun deck of banana-themed cards, now known as Peelers V1. Since then they've gone on to produce a cornucopia of fruit-inspired novelty decks. The concept of what you can expect from an OPC deck is a simple one. Typically it's a deck that features two pieces of fruit on the card backs, some humorous changes to the court cards that incorporate that fruit, an adjusted colour scheme, and a fun take on the tuck box. For example, the Squeezers V1, V2, and V3 decks are orange, lemon, and grape-fruit themed retrospectively, and the tuck boxes are designed to look like juice boxes, complete with an ingredient list. The Snackers decks are themed on strawberries and blackberries, and come in a resealable package typical of a bag of candies, and even include an artificially added scent that smells like the fruit. The latest additions to this popular series have included an avocado themed deck (Avocardos), and in somewhat of a departure from the usual fruit theme and look, a corn-themed harvest deck (Shuckers). Buying and pricing In the end, you should buy what you like, not what other people tell you to like. But how much do these decks typically cost? Latest releases typically sell at retail price, and don't cost a fortune. Although in some cases, especially with in-demand brands like Fontaines, you have to be right at your computer when a new deck is released, and be among the first set of buyers who are fortunate enough process a purchase in the few minutes before they are sold out. Otherwise you'll have to rely on resellers, some of which can have inflated prices. Older decks for virtually all of these series, however, tend to command much higher prices. This is simply a matter of supply and demand: as the number of collectors grows, more and more people want them, while the supply is limited, because the original decks are long out of print and out of stock at retailers. You'll have to rely on the secondary market to try to source these, and expect to dig deeper in your wallet if you want to get first and second edition decks of many of the above series. Investing and re-selling When collectors see some of these decks selling for over $100 on the secondary market, it can be tempting to think that it's a good idea to buy a stash of decks in the hope that you'll hit a jackpot with a brick of decsk that will be worth a bundle down the line. The reality is that this is hard to predict. When most of these decks were first released, nobody knew that they would become big hits over time. It's only as a series or brand generates momentum and establishes a loyal following, that the prices of the original editions start to rise. For example, I have a Peelers V1 deck, and these are now worth up to US$150 today. At the time I picked it up, it was just a novelty deck from an unknown brand, and I used it as an everyday deck for card games and card magic. Who was to know the success that OPC would later become? Meanwhile I've just been using it casually for card games! Much the same is true for the very first Fontaines deck, which costs a fortune now, but at the time was really just an ordinary deck. The playing card market is fickle and future hits are almost impossible to predict. If you want to earn money, rather than gambling on playing cards, you're better off spending your time working for money at your regular day job. Other popular series Are there other series besides the ones covered above? For sure. Daniel Schneider's series of Black Roses deck also has its passionate collectors, as do the Golden Nugget decks, the Gemini Casino decks, and the NOC decks. The Planets series by Vanda was also popular for some time, but with the release of all the planets this is obviously now complete. There are also people who collect anything produced by a particular brand, such as Anyone Playing Cards. More and more, faster and faster In the first few years of the boom in the playing card market that was created by the arrival of crowdfunding around 2009, new releases were typically produced either as a mass market deck, or as a numbered limited edition. That seems to have changed in the last few years, and the number of permutations for a particular deck seems to be more than ever before. First of all we get recoloured versions of the same deck, multiple times over. Then in addition we get a numbered deck, and a gilded deck... and multiple combinations of all of these. It starts to become impossibles for collectors to get a complete collection. Las Vegas Craps stories (forgot to post from my Dec trip)
Story one - This story happens at South Point Casino, just a few miles south of Mandalay Bay. Locals place. $5 tables (almost always). They had 4 tables open, 3 were 5 and 1 was 10. I was on the 5 dollar tables, left of stick. The dice were straight out on the other side of the table. Old guy, 70s or later was in the middle of a decent roll. An older Asian guy walks up beside him, drops 5 $100 bills before they could send the dice to the shooter. Guy says "All of it on the field". The table kinda glares at the guy. The dealer across from me says "Just look straight forward, don't look around. Everything will be fine". They put 5 black chips in the field. Shooter rolls a 3. Nobody gets hurt since a point is established (I feel likt the point was 9, but I don't remember). Field guy picks up $500 and leaves $500. Says to the shooter "Do it again". Shooter rolls a 4. Asian guy throws a black in, asks for change. Dealer gives the guy 4 green chips. The field guy tosses the shooter a green chip and leaves with $1475 and doesn't tip the dealers. Dealers grumble, we all look around and continue with the point. That's a lot of action for a $5 table. I just shrugged. Story two - Bally's. $10 table. Their tables has the repeater bets. There are 3 of us on the table, mostly playing 3 numbers or a few come bets. Guy buys in for 2K, just wants green. Puts $50 on the line, $25 on the 6 repeater and $5 on the 6 repeater for the dealers. He also put $25 on the 3 and 11 repeater. I get the dice. I'm having a pretty decent roll. I hit 5 6's, so I need one more 6 to hit that repeater bet. All of the sudden everyone is betting the hard six, pressing their six etc. Money is all over the place. I had my 6 at $60 if I remember correctly. I hit the 6 on the next roll. The dude jumped up and down, came down to me and I thought he was going to hug me during the pandemic. Instead I get an elbow dab. He makes (if I did the math right 25*90) $2250 and the dealers got $450 (to which they thanks the shooter and myself). I think I hit a few more numbers and 7ed out. I was down pretty low on my $200 buyin before the roll and left with $350 or so. That was fun, crazy and scary all at the same time. Story three - Jerry's Nugget (N. Las Vegas, just a few miles north of El Cortez). $3 table. It's full. At the far end is a dude (with face tattoos) and his friend. Things were going smoothly. Table was luke warm. Shooter would hit 1 point and 7 out. No really good rolls. Guy beside me is shooting and hits a point. The face tattoo guy quickly makes a passline bet with odds (which he didn't have) as the dealer is paying people. The dealer notices and starts yelling at the guy "We don't pull that shit here. You do that again and you will be on your ass outside. Don't cheat at our casino". Box guy comes over, warns the guy. EVERYONE decides it's time to color up. The face guy's friend tells him to knock it off. Don't be an asshole. I got to Jerry's a few times each trip and haven't seen this before. Story four (and final story). - Binions, downtown. $5 table. Nothing too special to talk about. The girls aren't in their cowboy outfits, instead have referee jerseys on. Still they look pretty good. Guy walks in and starts chatting with the stick girl. Decides to buy in beside her for 4K. $4000 on a $5 table. Playing all greens, being a big tough guy and flirting with the stick girl. I'm always nervous seeing that much money out on a $5 table, glad I wasn't rolling. A few bad rolls wipes him out and he leaves. He was power pressing and trying to make a big score. No dice!

I believe I’ve done this right for self-promotion/flair. My father is a retired Assistant US Attorney who prosecuted some of the biggest cases in Las Vegas history including a rash of strip casino robberies by LA gangs, industry-affiliated pimps, high-profile murder cases, and the kidnapping of casino mogul Steve Wynn’s daughter. (For those that don’t know Steve Wynn - he made the modern day Vegas what it is. Opened the Golden Nugget, Mirage, Bellagio, Wynn (of course), and many more). Awhile back he wrote a book about some of his biggest cases, mostly focusing on on gang robberies on the Las Vegas strip. A return to work for the federal government put that on hold and when he was discussing the idea again a year or so ago, my brothers and I told him podcasts were the new/perfect media right now. He decided to take on the project himself and his first “season” focuses on the kidnapping. Landcadia Holdings II (LCA) is Worth Your Investment, and Here’s Why… Tilman J Fertitta, owner of Golden Nugget casinos and CEO of LCA, holds a net worth of $4.9 Billion according to Forbes. He entered a purchase agreement on June 28th, 2020 in an effort to merge both of these companies, here is the 8k sec filing. The merge is set to happen sometime in the 3Q changing ticker from LCA to GNOC, as stated in this article. Although there is no current price target on LCA, it had an enterprise valuation of $385.94 M on 09/30/2019, fairly close to its competitor DraftKings (DKNG) with a valuation of $392.86 M on 09/30/2019. However, it should be noted that these valuations were published before the actual merger of DraftKings and Diamond Eagle Acquisition Corp. We could have a similar scenario with LCA once the merger happens, potentially surpassing DraftKings' share price, since Golden Nugget has continued producing revenue throughout this pandemic. Golden Nugget is leading the New Jersey online casino market and was responsible for 33.8% of the state’s $85.9m gross gaming revenue in May alone, according to igaming. We could see an increase in revenue for GNOC given that the following states have active bills looking to legalize sports betting: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Vermont, and Virginia. If California were to do so, it could generate them an approximate 700 million every year in tax revenue, according to the Los Angeles Times. Texas could potentially be open to online gambling as well, as Fertitta has joined Governor Abbott’s advisory council to safely reopen the state. Fertitta is not only looking out for himself, but his investors as well.
The very first phrase you see written on the site prominently in the top left-hand corner is “Established 1998.” Immediately, this gets a site a ton of brownie points in our book because longevity in this industry is only achieved through offering a great product with great customer service. Without happy and long-term customers, an online casino will crumble within a few years or a few months and slowly fade from view. Seeing that the Lucky Nugget Casino had been in business for almost 20 years had us excited to continue the review. The initial issue, though, was that we could have guessed the site had been around for 20 years just by looking at the homepage. The site’s homepage was a menacing wall of text with an aesthetic design straight out of 1998. Now, if this is the first site you’ve ever visited, you’re probably going to leave and look for somewhere else to play immediately. It’s easy for a new player to gauge the site based solely on the first impression which is totally understandable. The reasons we are not so quick to dismiss the Lucky Nugget Casino are two-fold. One, it’s extremely rare to find sites that have been successfully in business for this long and that carries a ton of weight with us. Two, we’ve seen A LOT of sites with awful homepages that still provide a phenomenal product. The old adage of “Don’t judge a book by its cover” continues to hold true in this regard to online gaming sites. To get to the bottom of everything, we began our intensive “vetting” and review process. As you may already be able to tell, we do not just give you the positives about a site. We give you the honest scoop, period. Frankly, we have zero problems bashing a site into oblivion if we have to and zero problems giving a site credit where credit is due. The point is that with our reviews you’re going to get information and analysis that you can ACTUALLY use. Too many review sites allow companies to pay for glowing reviews which just means you’re getting false information and are stuck holding the bag after a terrible experience with an online casino. This is NEVER the case with our reviews. We’re going to give it to you straight, regardless of if that is good, bad, or even sometimes ugly.
Ratings Breakdown
Overall
The Lucky Nugget Casino instantly got brownie points from us because they’ve been successfully in business for almost 20 years which is impossible to do in this industry unless you are treating your customers well and taking care of them. On top of that, game selection at the casino is strong including a lot of the expensive (for them to buy) branded games from Microgaming. While all of these are big positives and definite cause for you to check out the site, there were a lot of things we’d like to see improvements on. First, we’d like to see the user interface for the site upgraded to be more current and easily to navigate. When you actually get where the games are, though, this is light years better, but we need to see congruence throughout the site. We’d also like to see some minor improvements with customer service options (they’re good, not great) and some expansion in the bonus department. Overall, the site was “O.K.” and is one of those sites that may be a perfect fit for some due to the immense about of games offered but might be a miss for others due to the initial issues with the user interface. Lucky Nugget Casino Game Variety
Though it took us a while to find them, it’s hard to deny that the game variety at Lucky Nugget Casino was strong. With over 300 different slot offerings (and possibly more on the download client), 20+ video poker offerings, 9 roulette offerings, 30 blackjack offerings, and live dealer options, you’d have to be crazy if you couldn’t find a game you liked at the casino. The games were all of high quality, and several of the slot games were branded. The reason we docked a point was that they did not have a lot of popular table games that we would like to see like craps or any other table games outside of blackjack and roulette for that matter. A few additional table games were offered in the live casino but were not available as a non-live dealer game. We’d really like to see them expand this out before we can give them a full five-star rating.
Lucky Nugget Casino Banking
Lucky Nugget Casino had a ton of different options available for deposits and withdrawals which are always great to see. The issue we had was that they did not list the fees or limits associated with each of these options. While we don’t think they are trying to hide anything, this is information that is extremely important when judging whether or not a website has great banking options or not. The majority of the industry has free deposits and some sort of fees on withdrawals, but there’s a growing trend of sites that are waiving all fees across the board. We’d love to know whether or not Lucky Nugget is part of the majority or the minority. Due to the lack of readily posted information, we had to dock some points from their banking rating.
Lucky Nugget Casino Bonuses
The casino had several different promotions including welcome deposit bonuses and a few game specific promotions for you to take advantage of. We were a little confused/off-put that they had several promotions that were listed that looked to just be ads for the bonuses already offered in the games. We also would have liked to see a bit more creativity in the bonuses, but as always, we’re happy to see some healthy deposit bonuses and any forms of free stuff.
Lucky Nugget Casino Customer Service
The site offers 24/7 live chat and email support to its customers and visitors. Usually, this would score at least a 4 on our scale; however, we weren’t completely satisfied when we tried out the live chat. The agent was friendly and prompt, but we didn’t get the answers we were hoping for or offers of additional help from an elevated agent or supervisor. That being said, we would imagine that most requests would be handled well by their customer support based on our interactions, so we only docked a half point for that. The additional point off is because we would like to see phone support added as that is becoming much more of a standard across the industry.
User Interface
This was a tough one to score for the site because it felt as if there were two different sites rolled into one. When we first visited the main landing page of the site, the user interface was awful. It was hard to navigate, contained just a wall of text, and was not visually appealing at all. However, once we got to the instant play section of the site (which took a while to find), the interface was significantly better and felt like a totally different site. There were still a few issues with that site (scroll bar way too small to click, multiple lists of games in one), but overall it was much better than the initial. Slots
While getting ready to review the slots portion of the website something became painfully clear. The poor layout of the homepage continues throughout more of the internal pages as we searched for the slot games. That being said, the casino has a downloadable client that we’re going to focus on for the rest of this review. This is mainly because they say that not all of their offerings are available via the instant play option and also because navigating the site is making our eyes bleed. While downloading the Lucky Nugget Casino client, we had some more bad news. The download client did not work correctly and would never load. We tried downloading it multiple times, and it would fail to open several times and kick some scary looking error messages our way. Because of this, we were forced to go back to the instant play option which they say does not have all of the options mentioned. Once we got to the instant play section, the layout and graphics did get considerable better. Frankly, it looked like a new site within a site. The slot games were organized into a Popular section, Jackpots section, and a general Slots section. The games were alphabetized and searchable which are both positives and making us potentially start warming back up to the site. The one interesting thing about the slots list was that it was alphabetical, but there were two sets of games on the same list, so it ran from A to Z once and then A to Z once again. If you’re looking for a game, be aware of this and keep scrolling. One other side thing that we weren’t huge fans of was the scroll bar on the right side of the screen to get through the games was about a millimeter thick. You had to have expert aim to be able to grab the bar and scroll through the games. If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, that will work and fix this problem, but if you have a cheaper mouse or your scroll wheel is broken like ours is from years of online poker slamming, you’re going to struggle to scroll. Regarding game quality, things were great for the site. They had a ton of options which included newer, high-quality games as well as several branded games (games designed after TV and Movies). We’ve included the complete list of games available on the instant play side of Lucky Nugget Casino here. Remember, the site claims they have more offerings in the downloadable client, but we could not get it to work properly on multiple tries.

We would have liked to see a few more popular table games outside of roulette and blackjack, but the selection in those categories was still strong. The casino games were broken up into Video Poker, Roulette, Blackjack, and a separate Live Casino tab. The Live Casino tab housed all of the live dealer games offered by the Lucky Nugget Casino. If you’re unfamiliar with live dealer games, you’re definitely going to want to check them out. Through the use of streaming technology, you’re able to take a seat at a real live table from the comfort of your own home. All of your decisions are made from your computer or mobile device, and then the action all takes place at a real table set up with a real dealer somewhere in the world.
